Developer Netizen Games is trying to limit costs within its casual game Aggie Party through the use of facial recognition technology. The company announced the change on April 29, 2024 through a Responsible payment initiative Notice. The new move is in line with China’s anti-drug laws.
Players who spend more than RMB 198, which is equivalent to $27, will be sent a responsible payment reminder showing how much they spent. Before making further in-game purchases, you must acknowledge that they have seen the notice.
To further promote responsible spending, customers who spend RMB 328 ($45) in a 24-hour period will be barred from making further purchases unless they pass facial recognition verification.
Most app stores support facial recognition. However, if you live in China and download Eggy Party from Huawei, Vivo, Oppo, or Xiaomi stores, you will have a daily spending limit of RMB 328 until the stores support facial recognition. is not updated.
NetEase Games will also apply a lower daily spend limit to any account it deems to be high risk. This isn’t the company’s first policy aimed at curbing careless spending.
