The PSVR2 is an expensive console that costs $549.99, yet according to a games analyst, it’ll likely sell well in 2023. According to a general report, the headset will sell 1.6 million units within its first year, despite its launch a bit late in February.

The most recent issue of EDGE magazine (#380) revealed these numbers in the upcoming post-semo version. A reference, the original PSVR sold 1,9 million units in its first year of the year. That amount of 1,6 million is a little smaller than this number, but the PSVR 2 is expected to sell again soon. Sony recently claimed they finally solved the supply issues surrounding the PS5 and a cigarette price owes, and as more people buy the console, this should open up the market for more PSVR2 purchases down the line.

From those estimates, the PSVR2 will likely sell around 10 million units by 2027. It’s worth noting that this is still below the total estimates for the Meta Quest 2s figures of this year, which clocks 15 million units. Jijiashvili argues that these are rather bullish estimates, with the exception of Sony deciding to deliver some very compelling games in the first year.

Fortunately for Sony, a good first year isn’t a bad one. A PSVR2 is easier to port than ever, and new gimmicks come from the headsets new hardware features.

The PlayStation VR2 is going to start on February 22.
