The risk of rain re-imagines an old-fashioned roguelike tale from Hopoo Games and Gearbox

Fans of the classic Risk of Rain game have the chance to relive this unusual adventure. Hopoo is remaking the original 2013 game with a project called Risk of Rain Returns. It comes with enhanced visuals, a new code base and a great volume of original content that allows old and new players to dive into the series, especially if they only play Risk of Rain 2.

We didn’t see much in the announcement trailer as a movie in which one of the survivors crash landing on the planet and face the sting of horror as they try to survive on the incoming tornado. A thorough announcement from the Steams Risk of Rain 2 events page dives deeper into the role Hopoo Games has in managing Risp of Rain Returns and the franchises future.

The development team confirms Risk of Rain Returns will be a remake, where players play the role of one of the iconic Survivors and try to fight random alien monsters. The longer players run and the more difficult they become, the more difficult the enemies become to begin at.

Although some of the original Risk of Rain content is going to return, with updated pixel art styles, enhanced audio, and several rebalance tweaks to help mature players get to the next level. With a handful of new Survivors, items, enemies, interactibles and much more, the final product will arrive soon. Although the study group utilizes the Original Risk of Rain 2013 as a framework, the team is working in this project from the ground up.

The developers have no final release date, but are lining up for the game to come up on Steam and Nintendo in 2023.

Hopoo Games confirmed that Gearbox has officially acquired the Risk of Rain IP from the company. While the studio is the developer of Risk of Rain Returns, Gearbox will be publishing and developing future Risk of Rain products for the franchises future.
