And there’s much more in the store.

Sonic the Hedgehog has certainly known his presence these past twelve months. However, the head of the Sonic Team, Takashi Iizuka believes that 2022 might have just witnessed The biggest year of Sonic history.

Iizuka explained in a developer round-up article in Famitsu several successful multimedia projects featuring The Blue Blur and his pals. These include Paramount Pictures wildly successful sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Segas major PC and console release Sonic Frontiers, retro compilation Sonic Origins, and the recent Netflix animated series Sonic Prime. And then, the new Sonic LEGO line is coming out to the public almost one year ago.

Iizuka is a huge fan of the iconic Sega mascot, and noted that Sonic Team isn’t done with that series and hopes to develop this wave of new multimedia initiatives into 2023 and beyond. As a whole 2022 was for Sonic and pals, it looks like the coming year will build on the new and old fanbase.

We are planning to make the fans happy and keep this momentum going into 2023, notes Iizuka. We’ve already announced a new content for Sonic Frontiers, but there’s more that more at stake, so look forward to that.

Sonic Frontiers and Sonic Origins are now available on PlayStation, PC, Xbox and Nintendo Switch platforms. Sonic Prime can now be watched only on Netflix.
