In September of last year, Electronic Arts’ Motive Studio revealed that it was working on a single-player Iron Man game as the first part of a new EA/Marvel collaboration. Motive’s general manager Patrick Kloss has shared new details about the game. Studio update released today, including that the Iron Man game is being developed in Unreal Engine 5.
Motive released its Dead Space remake earlier this year, and Klaus says that in the wake of that, the studio’s focus has been “on the Iron Man project, which gives us another extraordinary property to work with ( and have had the opportunity to play!). He says the team is still in early pre-production and is taking its time to establish the best possible foundation for development, but that he’s “exploring the story, design and gameplay with Iron Man a lot.” There are opportunities.”

As it did with its Dead Space remake, Motive has created a community council of Marvel and Iron Man fans to help develop the game by offering feedback on “a lot.” It’s here in the studio update Klaus revealed that the team chose Unreal Engine 5 as the game’s engine, “to empower the dev team to work their magic and create something truly special. ”
Recent Unreal Engine 5 games include Lords of the Fallen, EA’s Immortals of Ivom, and of course, Epic’s own Fortnite.
Elsewhere in the studio update, Klaus says that team members have started returning to Motive Studios in Montreal, Canada in person, before explaining that there is still an “evolution period”. Specifically, they say “evolution that leads to elevation.”
“Our studio is driving how we live our values, including our commitment to learning and team spirit,” he writes. “We are so grateful to be able to do what we do, in a field we all love, and from EA, from our amazing colleagues at Marvel Games and of course from our players. For the trust given to us. We are very focused and motivated.”
