    Newbies Tips

I really enjoy playing this game. One of the things I enjoy the most is that there is no deadline that only comes once. It may take a season (or date) to get back to a year, but unless you’re pushing yourself to “win” by getting everything done as quickly as possible.

You cannot choose to save the game. Instead, it automatically saves when you sleep at night. Remember not to exit the game in the middle of the day or you will lose your progress for the day.

In the main menu, you can choose “Settings”. If you adjust “Game Time Speed” to 50%, you can double in one day. You can decide what your style is, but you should know the options.

At this point, you can only take your skills up to level 5. This is disappointing, especially for those of us who managed to get level 10 before the big upgrade this month. You can’t change it, but it’s good for you to know you’re not doing anything wrong.

Planting is one of the easiest ways to make money and advance the skills you already have access to. Remember to water them. (You’ll be able to make splashes later, but not for a while.)

You will be invited to dive or mine and they have many areas to collect items. I think removing trash from the ocean is comforting. Mining will give you plenty of stones.

Whenever you receive a new item, check it in inventory before selling it. If it says “donated,” it’s something you can earn points by donating to a museum. If that block is green, it means you have already donated it. If that block is gray, it means you haven’t donated yet. Items donated to the museum don’t give you money, but they do level up your character. If it says “offered,” that means you’re going to offer them to a goddess. Save these items until you present them later. This advances your character’s level and completing a section will give you a reward. Some rewards are lame but some are great. The software doesn’t change the “rendered” block from gray to green when you render it, so you’ll need to keep track yourself.

Later you will be able to convert trash into scrap. Do not sell trash or scrap; Save them instead. Many items require scrap to craft and cannot be purchased directly.

Wood will be needed later and there aren’t many trees outside your farm. What I did was clear my own form. (Again, I felt comfortable clearing the area until I stressed how many days it would take.) When the farm was cleared, I planted tree seeds (trees all around with 2 empty blocks in between.) and used the lower half of the farm for planted trees. Later, if you need wood, it will all be waiting for you. Later you will have mastered the occasional hard wood when felling common trees. Later I needed 5 hardwoods and had to cut down the entire forest (half of your farm) to get just 5 hardwoods.

Clearing the ocean will give you plenty of bronze and later a silver cape. You won’t be able to get silver kelp unless you have access to another level of the ocean. You won’t be able to access this second level unless you bribe the three turtles. The third requires milk and you can only get milk by having a barn and a cow, so it will be expensive. Just be patient, you won’t be able to do it right away.

When you start you won’t know who all the villagers are. When you look at the map (pressing “m”), you’ll see question marks for anyone you’ve never met. There are two people who won’t be in town in the spring but will appeal in the summer. I believe one stays in the fall, but the other disappears until next summer.

I’m sure I’m forgetting a lot of things, but hope this helps.
