Lament
After a cataclysmic event known as the Lament brings society to its knees, a new civilization rises. The alarming anomalies, collectively called the Waveworn Phenomenon, are caused by the power of wailing. These include Tacet Fields, Tacet Discord Outbreaks and a strange substance known as Tacetite. The Waveworn Phenomenon transforms matter, energy and information, converting them into vibrating frequencies called reverberations.
The sky above the Tacet plain is made up of inverted seas. Tacet fields can also be identified by the Tacet mark on the ground. Believed to be the source of the Tacet Discords, these locations connect the world of Solaris-3 to an unknown location via a white resonance cord.
Tacet Discords are collected in Tacet fields. Powerful enemies with constantly changing forms, Tacet Discords can possess Tacet Cores. These creatures surround themselves at different frequencies to stabilize and evolve and are known to mimic the appearance, behavior and abilities of their prey. The most powerful Tacet Discords are known as Threnodians.
Withering Waves: Rover
In this upcoming ARPG, you play as Rover, who wakes up from a long sleep without his memories. Little is known about where you came from and why you came. Rover has the unique ability to absorb Tacet Discords with his hands. Others with powers called Resonators are only capable of such things when using the Pango Terminal.
With this extra power, you might be able to save Solaris-3. In addition, the character, who you can choose to be male or female, is also a victim of dreams. Because of your strange abilities and untimely arrival, the Resonators will be watching you closely. However, this also means that you will be able to recruit them to fight on your side.
Resonators are people who are able to resonate with certain objects to manipulate their frequencies. If you’re going to get over grief and get your memories back, you’re going to need their help. Of course, these individuals must be careful not to overuse their abilities, as doing so can kill them.
Meet the Resonators of Wuthering Waves
Each resonator has distinct resonance capabilities, also known as fortes. Generally, a singer’s past influences what their fortes will be. Among the many Resonators you will recruit throughout the game are Verina, Yuanwu, Calcharo and Encore.
Encore is a pink-haired consultant from Black Shoes who is known for her quirky personality. Always with him are Cosmos and Cloudy, his two Woolies, who are also his best friends. Verena, on the other hand, is a humble plant breeder with strong determination. Despite her youth, Verena prefers to play a caring role in all her campaigns.
Dressed in a gray fedora and stylish black and blue jacket, Yuan Wu is a humble man who owns a boxing gym. A confident young man, Yuan Wu Lihuang is a master of martial arts and an expert in health management.
Finally, Calcharo is the leader of a dangerous mercenary group called the Ghost Hounds. His thin build, angular jaw and long silver hair are reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII’s Sephiroth, which is fitting since Calcharo are as ruthless and vengeful as they come.
Fast-paced combat
Wuthering Waves promises to offer smooth, fast-paced combat. As you play, you’ll collect echoes that allow you to take away the power of your enemies in battle. Also, you can increase your echo by claiming Tacet Discords’ Lasting Apparition.
The upcoming mobile RPG was developed by the creators of Punishing Gray Raven, so its fluid, action-packed battles come as no surprise. During battle, you can take advantage of an array of QTE mechanics to damage your enemies. You’ll also have access to abilities like Extreme Evasion, Dodge Counter and Echo Skills.
A World of Withering Waves
This highly anticipated RPG promises to offer players a vast world to explore. However, the developer hasn’t released much information about the different areas of the game other than Huanglong. There are rumored to be six cities in this region.
Huanglong includes places like Jinzhou, a city defending humanity from the Tacet Discords, and the nearby Gorges of Spirits, a strategic pass that serves as the gateway to said city. There are also Black Shores, but it seems like a small location rather than one of the game’s six regions.
