The Fossil Collector is a character from Detective Pikachu Returns that you can find in the Southern Ruins. You can talk to him as soon as you enter, but you’ll only receive the fossil quest if you talk to him with Darmaritan already available (if he doesn’t activate as Tim, talk to him as Pikachu). He is a fussy old man who looks for some fossils and is also very picky about them. This is where to find the fossils he will accept.
All Fossil Locations in Detective Pikachu Returns to the Southern Ruins Side Mission
You need two particular fossils to satisfy the fossil collector in Detective Pikachu Returns. However, I’ll note the location of the third fossil anyway, in case the quest doesn’t complete even after that.
Fossil #1
The first fossil is in this rock. near the entrance to the area. Break it to receive an armor fossil.

Fossil #2
The second fossil is found near the entrance to the ruins this time. From the camp, ride Darmaritan to the east and smash the rocks blocking the path. You should find a area with a Solrock in it. There is another breakable stone in this place; Crush it to receive a Skull Fossil.
There is also an Aerodactyl fossil (called Old Amber) inside the rock near the Ursarings in the middle of the area. The fossil collector will not accept it, but will only inform you that it exists in case it is a requirement to complete the quest.
Once you have your fossils, talk to the fossil collector again and give them to him for evaluation. That’s it, you’ve done it!
