A guide to help you win your first race if you’re struggling.

    Guide for new players

    Before you begin

My first tip before going into a race would be to turn on the auto attack setting in the options menu. It will aim for you and attack when enemies are close. This allows you to focus more on not getting hit than on the target.

I’d also turn on visibility mode as it can make projectiles easier to see, and makes all enemies of the same type the same color, so it should be easier to tell which threats are where.

    Character Choice

The first thing I would recommend is unlocking the Itamae character, which you get from having 100% crit chance in a race. This character is very easy to unlock, as all you need is the opportunity strike ability, and then not attacking for 12 seconds.

She’s not a direct upgrade from Sue (no character is strictly meant to be better) but she has a combat ability that’s more impactful, which is nice if you activate her every time she’s available. do not remember

But if you don’t have that or don’t want to use it, that’s fine and the rest of the guide is still useful.

    Selection of qualifications

In general I think the easiest abilities to use are from the base class – which is green which gives you flat stats. They are always good and you never have to worry about coordination because they work well with every weapon. The most important thing you need to worry about is beating the final boss – as this is the only enemy you need to hit 100% to win the run – so these stats help you achieve that. There must be some excellent things to do.

Defensive perks are also generally good, like Hard Hat and Summon Turtle. On top of that there are some perks that can help you clear the crowd without needing to enter the danger zone. For those people I would recommend Virus and Summon Flying Fish.

If you’re not offered any of these abilities, feel free to re-roll, heal, or just pick something that seems like it’ll help you the most.

Alternatively you can go for botanical abilities, which is stronger but requires a lot of luck and a lot of risk. I would avoid most ability trees because they have more specific uses that require a better understanding of the game and require you to use more mental bandwidth to keep track of them.

When up against the final boss, it’s a good idea to buy abilities from the Potion Maker tree, as they are very strong for the short amount of time you need to finish him off.

    Choice of weapons

Cleaver is good because it scales on its own and is free – but it has the weakness that you need to stay close to enemies. This is a very brainless option that is solid.

Cut is good for the same reasons, but its weakness is that enemies very close to you won’t actually get hit by it because its blade deals damage where it is.

The mace is also good because it does double damage to bosses – which is a very useful item when your main goal is just to kill the final boss.

All other weapons are great choices too, they usually require more thought.

    Gameplay tip

Obviously your main goal shouldn’t be to hit, but other than that you need as much EXP as possible so you can get abilities that let you kill bosses.

A really good strategy I’ve found is to run from enemies in a straight line and swing at those chasing you (slowing down to make sure you can always hit them). Then after reaching the wall I go the opposite way and do it again – picking up all the EXP left behind from the previous way.
