In the age of the internet, and the movies like Avatar and Madness, and the Dark Age and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever dominate the box office, it is refreshing to know that murder mysteries like Knives Out may still demand our attention. After success of the second film in the series, director Rian Johnson gave an update about the third installment for fans of the series.

After the success of The Knives Out, Netflix signed a contract for Johnson to see him make a sequel.

In an interview with RadioTimes, the director discussed the basics of the game: Knives Out. When he was asked about the three-part series, he revealed that he was beginning to figure out what the next one is going to be.

According to the director, both of he and Daniel Craig will continue with that franchise as long as they’ve got new and exciting stories to tell. I think that we have another movie in our contract with Netflix, but I think this isn’t a trilogy. I see it as a constant thing. As long as I am having fun and wishing that I could do something new and exciting, we’ll continue to do this as long as you can.”

Johnson directed the first trailer of the story novel Gagatha Christie in the murder mystery series in 2019 to massive commercial success. The movie earned 97% positive ratings from 467 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and a record over $312 million at the box office from an estimated $40 million budget. Many streaming giants, including Netflix, Amazon, and Apple, were interested in this success, and everyone wanted the rights to its sequels. Netflix, however, outweighs its competitors and signed Johnson to an agreement for $400 million for two sequels, one of which is the recently released film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

The whodunit murder-mystery portrays Edward Norton as an eccentric billionaire who will do anything for himself.

In the interview with Variety in September, the 49-year-old scriptwriter-director discussed his creative process for the franchise. He said that the series allowed him to write new stories rather than sequels. He explained that his idea is not to create a film that won’t go far from the previous, rather it would take a different approach to a unique film that will surprise and delight its audience.

Meanwhile, Craig confirmed in a recent interview with Variety that he’d continue working as a leader as long as Johnson continued writing it. The British actor mentioned he discussed future prospects with Johnson. Once asked whether he’s interested in playing Benoit Blanc for just as long as he did James Bond, he responded, “I must be so lucky! We talked about him all in a while and we’d like to keep making these Knives Out films. As long as we can keep making people laugh, we will do it.”

Glass Onion is the latest film in the movie’s series. Unlike Benoit Blanc, he is trying to solve a murder case that involved billionaire and his friends. Even though it landed on Netflix, it only made it the most gross movie a theatrical release, even though it had a brief run and showed in a select theater. Other cast members, including the like of Mary-Maron, Anne Odom, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Jessica Henwick and Madelyn Cline, respectively Helen and Cassandra Andi Brand, Clarie Debella, Lionel Toussaint, Birdie Jay, Duke Cody, Peg, and Whiskey.

Neither the series, Glass onion nor the film, is streaming on Netflix.
