It’s time to create another new era. Pokémon TCG Japan will release two set of Pokémon Pokémon & Pokémon Pokémon on January 20, 2023. Those sets will kick off Generation Nine and bring Pokémon and Trainers to Pokémon Pokémon TCG. These twin sets areScarlet and Violet. These sets and three 60-cardStarter Set ex decks will be the foundation for the English language setScarlet andamp; Violet base coming out on March 31. When news hit me, the version of the sets in English will now more closely mirror Japanese sets, utilizing silver, and set codes rather than set symbols. This set also makes sense for the return of the original low-case card type, as well as the debut of the Terastal ex card type that will replace Vs and VMAX as Ultra Rares. We haven’t yet seen how the Full Arts and Secret Rares of the Black and violet era will appear. Today we’re looking at all new species from Paldea coming into our first Pokemon TCG.

The hobby’s first Pawmi card, illustrated by Matsuno, is planned for Violet ex. Matsuno works with the characters from Sword & Shield Darkness Ablaze, where they contributed a pretty gorgeous Delcatty card I remember as a personal favorite from that set. Another memorable Matsuno card is the Snom waiting on a bench fromShining Fates, which became a bit of a meme, the autumnal Ninetails from Sword andamp; Shield Fusion Strike and a series of Eeveelution cards that appeared asSWSHBlack Star Promos in blister packs as well as the beautiful Vaporeon V Aged Art Collection from 2022.
Pawmi is a new, electric-like Pokemon that morphs to Pawmot, who I think we can expect to see in this set. Look at this new breed of Dex entries.
It has underdeveloped electric sacs on its cheeks. These sacs can produce electricity only if Pawmi rubs them furiously with the pads on its forepaws.
The paw pads act as electric impulses. Pawmi flies electricity out of his forepaws while sitting in the chair of his legs unsteadily.
Pawmi is thought to be the latest Pokemon-like Pokemon in all generation. This includes a direct relation to Pichu from Johto, but the group is mostly formed of similar but unrelated Pokemon like Plusle and Minun from Hoenn, Pachirisu from Sinnoh, Emolga from Unova, Dedenne from Kalos, Togedemaru from Alola, and Morpeko from Galar.
Japanese sets often give us early ideas of what English-language sets might include, so be careful not to rely on our coverage. You can watch the previews of Scarlet & Violet cards, and updates on all Pokemon TCG here at Bleeding Cool.
