Nintendo will reveal the Switch successor within the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. However, the company says there will be no mention of the successor during the Nintendo Direct in June. This direct will instead focus on games coming to Switch in the second half of 2024.

While this isn’t the company’s first hint of a Switch successor, it’s the most straightforward and comes from the same financial results where we learned that the Switch sold an additional 1.96 million units year-to-date, 141.32 Million software has reached 1.235 billion units.

“This is Furukawa, president of Nintendo,” of the company Announcement Reads on X (formerly Twitter). “We will make an announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It’s been nine years since we announced the rebirth of the Nintendo Switch in March 2015. The software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but Please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during this presentation.”

The announcement follows industry reports from earlier this year that said the Switch successor is targeting a March 2025 release date. That may still be the case given Furukawa’s reveal, but given the timeline, Nintendo could also announce a successor this month, meaning we won’t have it in our hands until later this year. Only time will tell, but at least we now know officially that by this time next year, we’ll know what the Switch’s successor is.
