Manor Lords developer urges players to stop messing with city walls

Manor Lords Early Access hasn’t arrived yet, but developer Slavic Magic is already asking players to stop playing cheese. Trying to find a way to beat the system, content creators and journalists who had access for the first time began building walls around their cities using the castle planning tool, thus breaking the game.

Taking the concept of “sandbox gaming” to another level, players used castle-building tools in a way the developer had not considered. The castle walls should not surround the city, as that creates logistical problems for the villagers. But it also confuses the attackers, which is reason enough to look for an escape.

While understandably problematic, it’s still a fun way to cheat the game, especially since this is a single-player game, so no harm, no foul. If you are curious about what the cheese with city walls looks like, you can see our screenshot below. Of course, don’t try this in your mansion at home!

While this was very funny, it also opened the door to more good news. The developer has confirmed that regular walls, towers and gates are planned for future Manor Lords updates. So be kind, stop cheesing, and be patient, as reinforcements are on the way. (And where there are walls, there are siege engines, so add them, or the players will probably find a way to use oxen to take down fortifications!). Manor Lords Early Access is coming to Steam and Game Pass on April 26, 2024.

When the developer asked players to refrain from doing this, the community reacted as expected:
