Mafia City brings back its collaboration with the hit series Yakuza.

    If there’s one game we can’t write about without commenting on memes, it’s Mafia City. A few years ago the game was ubiquitous on YouTube, and you couldn’t go more than a few videos without seeing an ad or someone bashing them. Then it’s strange to note that Mafia City is not just a funny set of ads, but actually a real game. And it’s also the one that’s bringing back previous collaborations with the top series Yakuza.

    The brawling, crime-thriller series Yakuza remained popular for years, before getting a big boost with Yakuza 0 that catapulted it to mainstream prominence in the West. It also started with a promotional collaboration between the game and Mafia City. Now, the collab is set to return with a new look featuring new series lead Ichiban Kasuga and fan favorites Majima and Kiryu.

    Like a dragon

    While yakuza fanatics may not necessarily gravitate towards Mafia City, we note that this is one of the first crossovers to feature protagonist Ichiban as the ‘face’ of the new series. It has spawned both Yakuza: Like a Dragon and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, two turn-based spin-offs of the main series that have been massively successful despite changes in tone and gameplay from their predecessors.
