In Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.3, a new minion, Wind-up Cagnazzo, was added. This spiky turtle was instantly reminiscent of Gamera, the famous kaiju turtle of movie fame. Here’s how to unlock the Cagnazzo Wind-up minion.

The Cagnazzo Wind-up minion is a rare drop from the Lapis Manalis dungeon in Final Fantasy XIV. Lapis Manalis is the dungeon that was added in patch 6.3 and it is a level 90 dungeon. Cagnazzo is the final boss of this dungeon and his minion drops in the final chest of the instance. For more details on how to unlock the Lapis Manalis dungeon, check out our guide.

Since the minion is a drop from a dungeon, you can try farming this with an NPC Trust to ensure you have a free scroll on the item if it drops. However, running a dungeon with NPCs can sometimes take longer than with Players in Duty Finder. The Wind-up Cagnazzo minion is also tradable and tradeable, so you can find it on the Market Board, though prices are hovering around the million-gil level right now, so shredding might be a better option.

The Wind-up minion Cagnazzo also has a unique interaction. If you target Wind-up Cagnazzo and use the /poke emote, Wind-up Cagnazzo will retract into his shell, fly, and spin. It’s almost certainly an homage to Gamera, the turtle kaiju who uses a similar move to fly in some of his movies!
