Ubisoft’s Call of Duty competitor, XDefiant, has finally arrived and is bringing some free FPS goodness to our screens. Having a higher frame rate gives you a slight advantage thanks to smoother gameplay when it comes to these twitch-based shooters. Luckily, there’s a 120fps mode in XDefiant that you can enable to give you that smooth, smooth framerate you crave.

The mode you’ll need to enable is called 120Hz refresh rate, but it’s the same as 120fps. To enable this, you will need to ensure that you have a display capable of at least 120Hz and that you have enabled high frame rate at the console/system level.

Enable 120Hz refresh rate in XDefiant

If you have a compatible display, open the Settings menu by pressing the right analog stick on consoles and navigating to the “Video” menu. At the bottom of this, you’ll find the 120Hz Refresh Rate option. It’s set to “Off” by default, so you’ll need to turn it on even if you have a compatible display and 120Hz mode enabled at the console level on your PS5 or Xbox Series X.

It’s worth noting that this mode is apparently only available on PS5 and Xbox Series

For PC players, you need to change the refresh rate from the standard 60.00 Hz option to 120.00 Hz. This option is located at the top of the Video & Graphics menu, just below Screen Resolution.

By enabling this mode, you will reduce the graphical fidelity of the game. In other words, it won’t look as pretty. However, that’s the price to pay for super slick frame rates!

XDefiant is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Amazon Luna.
