The Wild Fairy of Erinnyes is a Genshin Impact quest chain that begins by interacting with a suspicious Stone Tablet at the Marcotte de Fontaine Station. The first world quest in the series is called Foggy Forest Path.
Foggy Forest Path requires you to solve three puzzles using the abilities of the xenochromic ball octopus. It’s quite complicated, so follow the tutorial below to solve them.
How to unlock the Wild Fairy of Erinnyes quest chain in Genshin Impact
Head to the Marcotte Station in Fontaine to make a blue exclamation point appear on the world map. It will not appear when you are too far away from the area. Head to its location next to the fountain to find a carved stone tablet, which you must interact with to begin the world quest Foggy Forest Path, the first part of the Wild Fairy of Erinnyes quest chain.
How to reveal the secrets of the altar in Foggy Forest Path World Quest – Genshin Impact The Wild Fairy of Erinnyes
After accepting the world quest, follow the quest navigator to Foggy Forest Path. Once you are in the area, interact with the mysterious altar to activate the mission objective. You will be asked to reveal the secrets of the altar with only a highlighted area on the map as a guide.
This segment involves solving three puzzles in any order. If you don’t know how to use the Xenochromatic Ball Octopus’s abilities, check out Puzzle #1 below, where the mechanics are explained in detail.

Puzzle #1
You can find the first puzzle in the northern part of the area highlighted on the minimap. See the location circled in the image above to find it.
Begin, interact with nearby machine with a blue ball on top to absorb the Xenochromatic Ball Octopus’s abilities. While absorbed, the skill will replace your elemental skill.
You can switch between the Xenochromatic Ball Octopus ability and your combat skills using the special interaction button (T for PC; varies by device). While solving the puzzles, make sure you are in the Xenochromatic Octopus Ball Modewhich you can check based on your Elemental Skill button icon.
Hold down the elemental skill button to continuously fire a water bubble attack. You must target the contaminated bacterial mats (purple rocks) and destroy them using the Xenochromatic Ball Octopus ability.
After destroying the contaminated bacterial mats, two bubbles will appear in the surroundings. You must hold down elemental skill button to move one bubble to the other. Once the two bubbles touch, combine and form a bigger bubble.
Next, pay attention to the positions of the three Reed Pipes with runes on them. I mean the element that the arrow above points to. In this puzzle, all three Reed Pipes have a rune on them, so they must activate at the same time.
You will notice that there is a blue barrier surrounding bubble. Hold down the Xenochromatic Ball Octopus’s ability so that the bubble is in the center of the three Reed Pipes; Their positions are indicated by the arrows above. You need to make sure they are everything within the blue barrier.
Once placed in the center, burst the bubble with a Normal Attack to activate all three Reed Pipes at the same time. A short cutscene will play to indicate that you have solved the puzzle. If you don’t succeed, try again.

Puzzle #2
You can find the second puzzle northwest of the highlighted area on the minimap, next to the waterfall. The exact location is circled in the image above. This time, one Reed Pipe will have one rune and two Reed Pipes will have two runes. You’ll have to activate them in a specific order, so follow my exact sequence below.
Start by using the Xenochromatic Ball Octopus ability pressing and holding the elemental skill button to attack the contaminated bacterial mat. When defeated, two bubbles and some Slimes will appear. I recommend defeating the Slimes so they don’t get in the way. Use the special interaction button to switch to your normal abilities, then switch back to Ball Octopus’s ability.
Like before, Hold down the elemental skill button. to move the bubble near the two Reed Pipes with two runes so that the blue barrier encapsulates them both. Don’t move the other bubble..
Once this is done, use a normal attack to Pop the bubble near Reed Pipe with a rune. When it pops, do the same with the second bubble. A short cutscene will play to indicate that you have solved the puzzle. If not, try again.
Puzzle #3
The final puzzle is located south of the area highlighted on the minimap. Here you will find three Reed Pipes with one rune, two runes, and three runes. Since they must be activated in rune count order, you must be careful with the bubble positions.
Start with using the ability of the xenochromic ball octopus to attack and get rid of Contaminated Bacterial Mats. Two bubbles will appear.
Don’t touch the bubble near the Reed Pipe with three runes.. Use the Xenochromatic Ball Octopus’ ability to move the bubble near the reed pipes with one and two runes. You must move the bubble so that it meets the following conditions:
- The blue barrier should encapsulate the Reed Pipes with one rune and two runes, but should not touch the Reed Pipe with three runes.
- The bubble should be closer to the Reed Pipe with a rune.
The ideal bubble position can be seen in the image above. Once there, use a normal attack to pop the bubbles in this order:
- Burst the bubble encapsulating the Reed Pipes with one and two runes.
- Wait for the first bubble to finish activating the two Reed Pipes.
- Pop the second bubble near the Reed Pipe with three runes.
Once this is done, a cutscene will play to indicate that you have been successful. If not, you can try again.
After completing all three riddles, return to the altar and interact with the bright spot to collect the mysterious item. Doing so will activate the dialogue and complete the world quest. You will also unlock two more quests in The Wild Fairy of Erinnyes:
- Withered Weeping Willow
- furious spring mouth
