Martinet’s distinct vocals have been synonymous with Mario since 1991, who has been comfortable in his shoes for 32 years.  But now, it has been officially confirmed that the iconic voice of Mario (and Luigi), will be officially stepping down as the plumber’s voice actor.

This comes after many fans had theorised that the voice actor for Mario in Super Mario Bros. Wonder wasn’t actually Martinet – but his involvement in this game is still unconfirmed.

Dissecting voice clips from the game, gamers have pointed out that there are some moments where Mario sounds different – and it looks like he actually could be.

It’s sad to say goodbye to Martinet, but it’s still great news that he’s sticking around with Nintendo to help bolster the plumber’s legacy. So long, sweet prince.
