Each Hades 2 boss drops a special item that unlocks new Arcane Cards, upgrades, and enchantments. Each boss’s item description is followed by a short list of the main items they are used for.
Hecate
Hecate is the first boss you will encounter on your way to Chronos. She serves as Guardian of Erebus. Defeating her will give players a Cinder, which is described in the game as “used with enchantments involving fire and preservation.”
What are ashes used for in Hades 2
Ashes are the first and easiest of the boss rewards, so they have the most uses in the story. This includes the Permeation enchantment which gives you access to the surface world.
- Unlocking the Umbral Flames weapon.
- The Witch Halls Permeation Charm.
- The enchantment of the Consecration of Ashes.
- The five upgrades for Melinoe’s Aspect for Umbral Flames.
- Creating moondust through the moonlit essence of shadow enchantment.

Scylla and the mermaids
Scylla is the final boss of Oceanus, the second zone of the underworld. Defeating Scylla and her Siren Band grants you a Shining Pearl. When you see a Pearl in your inventory, it is described as “primarily used with enchantments involving luminance and perfection.”
What are pearls used for in Hades 2
Pearls are used to unlock a useful enchantment, activate an Arcane card, and unlock weapon skins.
- Unlock the Nether Vision Enchantment.
- Unlocks the Momus skin for the Witch’s Staff.

The Infernal Beast
The final boss of Fields of Mourning is The Infernal Beast. Defeating him will give you a Tear, which is used for “charms involving spirit and pain.”

- Unlocking the Moros Aspect for Umbral Flames.
- Unlock the Tending to a Faithful Beast enchantment.

Cronus
Chronos is the final boss of the underworld. He was one of the hardest bosses I faced in Hades 2, so Zodiac Sand gives you a precious item. The inventory description mentions that Zodiac Sand is “used with enchantments that imply inevitability and decay.”
What Zodiac Sand is used for in Hades 2
Zodiac Sand is one of the most difficult resources to collect as it requires defeating Chronos. Its rarity means that it is only used for one extremely important enchantment and the rarest Arcane Card.
- Activating the Arcane Card “Judgment”.
- The Time Dissolution Charm.

These bosses are only available to those who stray from the path of defeating Kronos and head to the surface.
The Cyclops Polyphemus
Polyphemus is the guardian of the city of Ephyra on the surface. Knocking out Polyphemus gives you Wool, which the game describes as “primarily used with enchantments involving roughness and tact.”

Wool has four main uses in the Early Access version of Hades.
- Activating the Arcane Card “The Seer”.
- Unlocking the Rush of Fresh Air enchantment.
- Unlock the Tending to a Faithful Beast enchantment.
- Unlocking the Bread skin for the Blade sister weapon.
Eris, the fight incarnate
Eris is the final boss of the Thessaly Rift. She wields the Adamant Rail, making her a formidable opponent. If you are able to defeat her, you will receive the infamous Golden Apple. According to the inventory description, the Golden Apple is used for “charms related to beauty and fertility.”

The Golden Apple is one of the two boss rewards you’ll get at the end of the Early Access version of Hades 2. Currently, the Golden Apple has two main uses.
- Obtaining the Eos Skin for the Umbral Flames weapon.
