The first Ash of War that you can get in the Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is Shriek of Sorrow Ash of War. This ash of war lies east of the Small Private Altar of Grace in Belurat, Tower Settlementwhere you can go right after starting the DLC.

From Grace, go up the stairs and you will see a soldier with two weapons walking around. Go right towards the ruins and you will see a large entrance to an area. When you enter the area you will see a tree in the middle. The War Ash is found on top of a body, which is collapsed behind the tree.

As soon as you approach the tree, you will be invaded by Fire Knight Queenlin. Defeat them or try to quickly get the War Ash and leave the area.

The Cry of Sorrow increases your attack power by the amount of your health, for 40 seconds. The lower your health, the more attack power you have. For example, when used, at 100% health, your attack power will increase by 12.5%, while at 30% health or less, your attack power will increase by 27.5%.

It is recommended that you use this before a boss fight, as it can provide a large attack power boost early on when you are low on health. The best way to do this is to continuously use Seppuku to reach 30% health with one weapon and then use Sad Cry with your favorite. Then, heal yourself and you will continue to receive the 27.5% attack power increase for 40 seconds.
