In Baldur’s Gate 3, there is a character that players can encounter multiple times named Araj Oblodra. She is a drow elf seeking to reclaim her family’s name from its ruin, and she has a number of permanent advantages that you can gain if you know what to do. One of the things she offers you during Act 3 is a potion called Gruna Formula, but it’s not exactly clear what she’ll do to you.

Gruna Formula is a potion that gives the player character a permanent buff. Araj Oblodra made the potion with your blood and it is not entirely clear what he will do once it is drunk. The Drow even asks you to leave his lab before drinking it, just in case. So it’s understandable that you want to know what it will do to you before you take it.

If you choose to drink Gruna Formula, it will give you a permanent buff called Unstable Blood. This upgrade makes your blood highly flammable. So when a creature damages you and your blood splashes onto the battlefield, you can power it up and damage any enemies that are standing or splashed with your blood. This is a permanent benefit that persists through death and resurrection.

Karlach is the best BG3 teammate to give this permanent buff to. She is already naturally resistant to fire and can take a hit. While other barbarians and other melee powers can also make use of this build, they will need a source of fire resistance for this build to be viable. Build her as a Berserker to get in close and hit enemies multiple times per round. Here’s what you could use:

    • Thermoarcanic Gloves: Arcane Ashes: Every time you deal Fire damage, you gain 2 turns of Heat. Consume your heat to perform a powerful attack. The next time you deal Fire damage, you deal 1 additional Fire damage for each remaining Heat turn.
    • self-immolation ring: Deals 1d4 Fire damage for two turns. Set yourself on fire to gain Heat and access Heat Convergence.
    • Ring of Fire: Burning Fury: When dealing Fire damage, the user deals 1 additional Fire damage.
    • Defective Infernal Dusk Armor / Defective Infernal Dusk Armor: The flawed version of this armor can be accessed in Act 2 and grants minor infernal retribution: when hit by an enemy within 2m, you could take between 1 and 4 Fire damage. However, a better version of this is available in the final House of Hope fight, and it offers: When you succeed on a Saving Throw, the caster receives Burning for 3 rounds. Additionally, you have resistance to Fire damage and cannot be burned. You take 3 less damage from all sources.
    • Ash Moth Coat: A creature that damages the bearer within 2m receives Burning.
    • Everburn Blade: This sword is always on fire and causes 2D6 Slash plus 1D4 Fire.
