Warhammer 40,000: Darktide – The Gun Psyker Commando Guide

A short draft on how to approach the psyker differently: using a gun. I love it, it’s fun – and very versatile.

    Guide to Gunpsyker Commando

    Introduction

I love the Psyker class. However, I think, people are a little to focus on the staff. I’m not saying, a balls-to-the-wall pyro psyker build or an anti-elite CC-Stagger Palpatine cosplayer isn’t worth it – quite the contrary.

However, I think playing a psyker with a gun is a lot of fun and has one major advantage: versatility and adaptability.

    • You may not have the strength of a veteran – but you can play the role.
    • You’re not a tank like an ogre – but you can control enemies because of the Deflector Force Sword.
    • You’re not a melee powerhouse like Zealot-bois, but you’re no pushover either.

And your mind is blown that no one else can reach this sniper safely.

On top of that, this psyker is almost never in danger of being overpowered.

So you basically play whatever your team needs most in its composition or current battle situation.

Your gun is your main anti-special and anti-elite (like Rangers) tool. Due to certain ammunition limitations, you cannot fire at anything at any time. But that’s not what you should do anyway.

    your gun

Variant One: The Akitaran Recon VIIa

This gun is very accurate (even and especially when fired from the hip), packs some punch and has a quick fire that helps trigger a reliable kinetic flare. If you’re somewhat conservative with your ammo usage, you’ll usually be fine in this regard as well (unless some greedy ammo gremlin picks up every ammo out of principle).

I personally enjoy using it too.

When Re-Blessing comes out, I’ll probably swap out Hit & Run with Blaze Away for more impact in long-duration firefights against bosses or elite packs.

    Variable Two: Acitran Heavy Lospastol

A gun that is considered useless by the player base. While this may be true on veterans, it has particular use on psykers. It is accurate, relatively fast and has a large ammo pool. On top of that, it has more critical chance than other guns and is very mobile – fast movement/running speed. Hip fire isn’t very accurate though, so you need to aim more for land shots.

But what makes him really interesting, is his special attack. With this, you “push” enemies into a large circle in front of you. But the interesting thing about this push is that it creates 10% risk every time you use it. This makes it especially interesting to use in conjunction with the Silence feat. Pearl coiled – which would be sharp on an unpowered weapon – adds stiffness. You can basically spam this special when you need a guaranteed better toughness region for a long time.

If you love a gun and are looking for a somewhat functional and cool use case for it – equip your psyker with this!

Unfortunately, due to the insanity of the gear progression in this game, I couldn’t get my hands around a gun that’s actually that good. I would definitely go for the +% crit chance perk and maybe go for the weak point dmg blessing (for the fun of it) in conjunction with Inference.

    your sword

    Deflector Force Sword

There really is no competition. This is the sword I am currently using. Base stats are bad, perks are somewhat ok (I’d prefer + elite damage and damage against carapace). Why am I still using it…? Because of the evil blessing. This enables you to block ranged attacks and works very well with kinetic deflection and silence. Psyker they say are squishy glass cannons? Not anymore! This special attack is also very strong against heavily armored targets – such as crushers and mullers. So it really compensates and counters the main weaknesses of your guns.

    Your achievements

    Level 5: Silence

Silence is great because you have more control over your toughness regeneration than other feats. You can always use your mind burst or weapon special attacks to create a threat. Level 20 Feat Kinetic Deflection also works very well with this as it creates a threat when blocking attacks. A threat that once again gives you toughness once you block it.

    Level 10: Silence

The rest are all things that are considered more useful. But like Laspistol, I really like the fact that this feat has at least some viable use in this build. Whenever Kinetic Flare kills an object while activating using your gun, this perk also activates and sets enemies around your shotdown target on fire. Those Soul Blaze stacks can also give you Warp Charges in return (due to the level 30 feat).

    Level 15: Psychic Communion

This advantage ensures that you no longer have to worry about warp charges. Especially on heresy and curse (many enemies, many chances to trigger this feat). It really helps you stay 4 charges active for that sweet +12% damage all the time you do the bonus.

    Level 20: Kinetic Deviation

This perk is a game changer with the Deflector Force Sword. You can tank enemies for surprisingly long periods of time. You can also reliably revive fallen allies. And then – a lot of fun to use.

    Level 25: Kinetic Flare

Kinetic Flare really improves your damage output as a gunslinger. Since you’re using fast-firing guns, it works reliably. The fact that it gives you a Warp Charge and triggers Wrack and Ruin on a kill is icing on the cake.

    Level 30: Ascending Blaze

I was a bit torn between this and Kinetic Barrage. However, I really wanted to focus on this guy’s versatility and adaptability. So I go with Ascendant Blaze. It really covers a weakness you’d otherwise have: Horse CC and trash damage. If intended and used correctly, the range and impact of its “con” is literally astounding. It also often sets you back 3-4 Warp Charges in a short period of time.

    Thanks

I know, this guide is like a rough draft. But I hope I can “encourage” you to think outside the box and give Gunpsyr a go. I personally enjoy it a lot. I hope to see more pew pew psykers in Tertium in the future. By now, I’m feeling a little lonely. This guide was/is a way to change that.

    have nice day!

    Look how cool Gunpsyr looks.
