Wuthering Waves offers any new account a free five-star character to choose from. There are five characters, called Resonators, that you can choose from, but who is the best one to choose?

As part of any new account in Wuthering Waves, you will have the opportunity to choose a character for free in the beginner’s choice five-star gathering. You’ll also be able to choose a five-star weapon to go with them in a separate free banner. If you’re wondering which of the five five-star Resonators you should choose, here’s my list in order.

5. Lingyang: Ling Ling’s Fighting Spirit
Lingyang was extremely mediocre in the Beta. While her kit looks great on paper and the character model is quite attractive, she just didn’t live up to expectations. His Outro looks like it should be the most powerful spell here, but he can’t keep up with the rest of the five stars with it.
4. Jianxin: Cleansing Reflections
I’ve seen some arguments on Reddit and other online communities that Jianxin will be the best unit to pick in the beginner’s pick call, mainly due to its protection and auto-stop capabilities. He also has a Venti-like ability to stack enemies. However, he didn’t do very well in the Beta due to some bugs; If Kuro manages to fix his kit so that it works properly, he will probably rise much higher on this list.
3. Encore: Woolly Counting Game
Encore is still a strong character to pick, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to be as powerful as Calcharo. His Angry Cosmos Inherent depends on him having most of his HP intact, but his Outro is an incredibly powerful DoT. He wants to launch strong attacks when his Dissonance is full to begin his damage reduction, rather than Calcharo only needing to launch basic attacks.
2. Calcharo: Mirage Hunter
Calcharo will be an extremely powerful single target DPS that will pair well with the next Yinlin character; This will be great for early game boss battles. However, if you’re looking for incredible damage, Calcharo is a great option for your team. His Outro attack creates a hidden copy of himself that attacks again for 56% of his damage, and has some powerful inherent abilities that reduce damage taken and increase damage to enemies.
1. Verina: the call of the wild
Verina is one of only two healers currently available in Wuthering Waves and she is very powerful. Her Outro ability increases damage dealt to the entire party by 15% for 30 seconds, in addition to her buff of 20% attack power on your part for 20 seconds. She also has a sweet get-out-of-jail-free card up her sleeve with her inherent Grace of Life ability. She’s a powerful healer who buffs your team and prevents you from dying, making her the number one pick right now. Also, look at her! She is adorable.
