Spider-Man: The producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller talked about the hardest part of creating such a huge sequel.

Miller discussed the expectations and hopes that the first film fans could have seen in the sequel, and also the challenge of keeping things fresh and interesting.

Because you want to tell a touching story and a emotional story, these films have big pressure. You want to be a part of all the things they were hoping for but also to be something people didn’t even know they wanted. Because the entire idea of these movies is to show you something you have never seen before, Miller told The Wrap.

And if we do a fun, slow story that felt like the first movie, then it would be a little disappointed. You want to see pictures you have never experienced before. It’s a big challenge to do those things and do them in a way that engages and delights all the time. But because we do these things, we have to do that. It’s the goal, just to make you laugh and cry and experience something you’ve never experienced before.

Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson. The show stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham and Oscar Isaac.

After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyns full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse. His trip is led by a team of Spider-People who were involved in protecting the existence of Spider-People, he reads the synopsis. But when the heroes clash on the way to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and has to redefine what it means to be a hero so that he can save the people he loves most.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseis, produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg, with Alonzo Ruvalcaba. Peter Ramsey and Aditya Sood are executive producers.
