The PlayStation VR 2 will be coming out in a couple of months, and according to Hideaki Nishino, the SVP of Platform Experience of Sonys, there’s a legitimate reason for not having a wireless headset.

In an interview with Famitsu, Nishino stated that the PSVR2 remains wired with its predecessor, the PSVR, so the device can gain maximum performance:

We also understand that going wireless will give you another experience, so were always looking at all possibilities and doing technical research. But still it’s unknown how far the cable solution can be replaced with a wireless one due to its reliability.

Wireless VR headsets such as the Meta Quest 2 are extremely immersive thanks to the lack of a cable, yet not so fun to use when connecting wirelessly to PCs. The connection can lead to latency, cause problems with stability and make a lot of mistakes. Even if VR technology advances far enough that wireless and wired headsets aren’t distinguishable, it seems like Sony will stick with the best performance, even if that means having to deal with the cable you’re using.

The PlayStation VR 2 will open on March 22, 2023.
