An announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be made during the current fiscal year, but it won’t happen at next month’s Nintendo Direct, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced.

The news came via a tweet from the official Nintendo Japan X account (previously known as Twitter). In it, Furukawa states that “an announcement regarding the successor to the Nintendo Switch” will be made “within this fiscal year.” That means we should have some news about Nintendo Switch 2 before March 31, 2025.

Any hopes that we would get our first look at Nintendo’s next-gen hardware next month were crushed in the same post. “We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June about the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the second half of 2024, but please note that the Nintendo Switch successor will not be mentioned during that presentation.

Reports from Bloomberg earlier this year indicated that the Nintendo Switch 2 had been delayed until March 2025, as it was initially scheduled to launch before the end of 2024. Rumors as early as last week had also suggested that the Joy-Cons Cons of the Switch 2 they would use magnets. technology to attach to the screen and the main piece of hardware, rather than using the “rails” system of current hardware. The old Joy-Con and Pro Controllers would also work with the new device, and physical and digital Nintendo Switch games would work on the Switch 2.

It looks like we won’t have to wait much longer to see if all of these rumors are true or not. What do you expect from Nintendo Switch 2? Let us know in the comments below.
