    • Fortnite is coming back to iOS in the UK.
    • Thanks to a change in competition rules, the game should be available in the latter half of 2025.
    • Tim Sweeney has had it rough with Apple.

Fortnite, Epic Games’ flagship battle royale, is set to make its return to iOS in the UK in 2025. Yeah, not exactly big, but still big news. Tim Sweeney and Apple are finally putting an end to what feels like a decade now, but slowly changing laws in the EU and UK have made Fortnite’s gradual return to the iPhone.

As for what it means for the average UK player? Well, that means you can access Fortnite sometime in the second half of 2025 without having to use any work or other tactics. And while that’s a little long to wait, it once again signals the tides are turning against companies like Apple and Google.

    Did Epic change things?

The big question for us is what, of course. Epic Games throws down the gauntlet for Apple back in 2020.? This was when Epic took away the ability to buy V-bucks (in-game currency) directly from Apple or Google instead of them.

Long story short, what followed was a grueling match of truly titanic proportions. With Epic Games, and especially with boss Tim Sweeney, all but martyring themselves in really dramatic fashion. Yet despite Epic’s often melodramatic announcements surrounding the case (such as with a parody of Apple’s famous 1984 ad), it began to raise questions about Apple’s 30% levy on in-app purchases. How was it justified?

We’re not about to call Sweeney the undisputed hero of mobile. But it undoubtedly resulted in renewed public interest and scrutiny from lawmakers. This brings us to where we are now, as Fortnite returns to the mobile storefront thanks to a third party, their own upcoming mobile store or, as in this case, domestic legislation.

    Winner, winner, yes?
