With all the hype surrounding Amazon Prime’s newly launched Fallout series, dedicated fans and newcomers alike are returning to the gaming wastelands to embark on their own post-apocalyptic adventures. One player has shared their recent discovery of an interesting detail in the Fallout 4 game’s cigarette machines, and other fans are equally surprised that it took them so long to notice for themselves.

Reddit user u/Splatulated shared their find on the Fallout 4 subreddit, simply stating that they had never realized that the cigarette machines that can be found in bars, shops, and other buildings in the wastelands had a built-in lighter. It can be found on the left side of the machine and is almost comically sized.

I just realized that cigarette machines have a built-in lighter.

I’ll be honest, in the hundreds of hours I spent wandering the Boston wastelands and rummaging through every building I could for random crafting supplies and materials, I never noticed the oversized lighter sitting on top of the cigarette machines.

In response to au/Splatulated, other veteran players also shared their disbelief because they had never noticed it before.

“That’s a huge lighter, somehow I never noticed,” said u/El-Burkako, while u/zactorbeamz responded: “You’ve blown me away. I’m pretty sure I’ve stared at one on a screen charge and I never realized.” Me too, zactorbeamz…me too.

Another Redditor shared other threads in which other Fallout 4 players had also shared their surprise at the discovery. After hundreds of hours of play, both u/Vamfrk3 and u/Rogue_freeman He had also made the same discovery.

This is just another example of how easy it can be to overlook details that developers painstakingly add to their games. Was it the slightly worse images of 2015 that made it so easy to miss, or were we all so engrossed in our wasteland adventure that we didn’t notice? I guess a little of both.

Amazon Prime’s Fallout series is now available on the streaming service in its entirety. Meanwhile, Fallout 4 can be accessed on Xbox Game Pass for free. It is also on sale on Steam, PlayStation and Xbox with a 75% discount.

It’s not just video games that hide some interesting Easter eggs and spoilers. Viewers of the show have noticed a familiar painting of Todd Howard Napoleon in the background of a scene and have been theorizing about the contents of those vials that are so important to demons.
