Do you ever feel like you’re lost in a nuclear wasteland, slowly succumbing to radiation sickness? For those who have been waiting for Bethesda’s next-gen upgrade to Fallout 4, it certainly looks like it. While the revamp of the 2015 title may have been a chart-topping success, the developer is locking it away in the vault.
Despite 2008’s Fallout 3 being credited with bringing the apocalyptic adventure into the mainstream, that didn’t stop Bethesda from pushing for Fallout 4. Eight years is more than enough time to warrant an upgrade in the gaming world, meaning a new-gen Fallout 4 could look like a completely different game.
Where is Fallout 4 for our new generation?
Bethesda announced a new-gen Fallout 4 upgrade for PS5, Xbox series, and PC in October 2022. Very A loose release date of 2023. However, as the clock ticks to 2023, there is no sign of our new gen Fallout 4.
There are likely a number of factors at play here, and simply put, Bethesda has been a little too busy releasing a little sci-fi game called Starfield. With the Starfield being moved several times since its original release date, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that this has likely had an impact on the next-gen Fallout 4.
The team has had plenty of opportunities to update us on where things stand, however, Bethesda has been mysteriously silent. Bethesda’s Pete Hines recently applauded these complaints and used Starfield as an excuse, but for a growing number of disgruntled players, that’s not good enough.
What’s up with Fallout 5?
The lack of news didn’t go unnoticed, with an angry Reddit thread asking what happened to the next-gen Fallout 4 upgrade. When the OP asked why we hadn’t heard anything since June (when we were told not to expect anything), others soon chimed in.
one muttered,Oh how I wish more big game devs would actually listen to their players instead of half-assing and following the whims of the wallet.“While another added,”I wouldn’t even count on them starting yet. There is at least one announced DLC for Starfield plus a bunch of patches.“
It made a lot of sense when someone else concluded, “Bet it’s being saved for the Fallout TV show and they’re hoping for a feedback loop like Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk.Amazon’s live-action Fallout series is just over the horizon and is sure to bring in new players.
For now, Fallout is apparently on the back burner of Bethesda’s consciousness. It’s all set for the first Starfield DLC, and after that, work on The Elder Scrolls 6 is over. We’ve been warned that even with Fallout 5 out, it’s still years away from release.
Meanwhile, recent leaks point to a full Fallout 3 remaster. Along with our hopes of seeing a sequel to Next-Gen Fallout 4 and New Vegas, these titles could make up for the painfully long wait until Fallout 5 is released in Wasteland.
