Modern Warfare 3: Zombies is shaping up to be a very content-rich experience with all its different ways to play and tons of weapons, especially since it appears to have received a total overhaul from previous experiences. Here are all the details you need to know if you’re a big COD Zombies fan, all available with the release of Modern Warfare 3.

All the content of the MW3 Zombies launch, explained

MWZ is effectively replacing the DMZ game mode introduced in Modern Warfare 2. However, the DMZ format is not ignored. Instead, it’s being integrated into MWZ, meaning that much of the gameplay contains DMZ DNA. With that understanding, MWZ is built on three key content pillars

    • Operation Bolt – Like DMZ, MWZ is an open-world experience where you’ll search for valuable resources and schematics to upgrade your equipment. Operation Deadbolt is also the name of the ongoing story that will begin with MWZ.
    • Missions and Contracts – Again, like DMZ, you will be tasked with completing specific Missions to unlock new content and story progression. Plus, you’ll be able to complete bounties to earn rewards as you explore the open world.
    • Security and Extraction – The more you spin wondering about the world, the more you will attract the attention of the angry dead. You can’t stay forever because you’ll feel overwhelmed, so you need to extract what you can to reap the fruits of your efforts.

While these are the core parts of MWZ, there is much more to learn, such as how the implementation works.

MW3 Zombies: attack teams and equipment

To play MWZ, you will need a strike team of operators to deploy with. Each Operator has their own equipment that you can equip them with and you can recruit any carrier unlocked of Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3.

Just like in DMZ, you will secure much of the equipment you find while searching in MWZ. Each member of your strike team has access to several equipment slots that you should consider when preparing for deployment.

    • Primary and secondary weapons – All weapons from MW2 and MW3 can be used in MWZ.
    • Secured slots – You have access to three secured slots, and only one is available at the beginning until unlocked through MWZ missions.
    • smuggling equipment – Weapons found in the open world and looted will normally be considered contraband. Smuggled weapons are lost if you die while equipped. You will be able to maintain a stash of 20 at any given time.
    • Tactical and lethal – Equip your strike team with a variety of traditional Call of Duty equipment, such as fragmentation grenades, stun grenades, Molotov cocktails, and more.

Beyond your equipment, you’ll also have access to special field upgrades that exist only in MWZ.

    MW3 Zombies – Field Upgrades

Field upgrades in MWZ are different from those you can use in any other Modern Warfare 3 game mode. These upgrades are specific to MWZ and focus on keeping the increasingly imminent zombie threat at bay for you and your friends. There are a total of six MWZ field upgrades.

    • energy mine – Generates an explosive mine that causes a lot of damage when activated.
    • Frantic guard Repairs your armor and taunt nearby enemies for 10 seconds.
    • Healing aura – Heals all nearby players instantly.
    • frost explosion – Deals moderate damage and slows enemies within the area of effect.
    • Ether Shroud – Become invisible to all zombie threats.
    • Tesla Storm – Stuns and damages all enemies that come into contact with the beam that connects to other players. It lasts 10 seconds.

Crafting is a big part of MWZ because of the perks you can get by participating in it. There are two types of crafts in MWZ, Acquisitions and schemes.

    • Acquisitions – Unique crafts that you can find and search in the open world. Its advantages depend on its type. No crafting cooldown.
    • schemes – Permanent crafts that you can obtain while in the open world. When recovered, they can be created indefinitely, but have a cooldown on your ability to create them.

There is four types of Acquisitions and Schemes.

    • Aetherium – Resource necessary to strengthen the power of your weapons.
    • Perk-a-Colas – Replaces the Gear Perk system present in MW3. Drinking a specialized cola will give you special effects like removing scope sway.
    • Ammo Mods Modify the type of ammunition fired with your weapons.
      • brain rot
      • Cryogenic freezing
      • dead wire
      • naplam explosion
      • Shattered explosion
    • wonder weapons – Extremely powerful weapons that go far beyond your standard arsenal.

MWZ looks like a refreshing take on DMZ combined with the ever-popular Zombie game mode of yesteryear. I’m excited about the release of Modern Warfare 3, and hopefully this overview of incoming MWZ content will get you excited too.
