Beginners guide and general tips and tricks and how to play to become a successful solo player.

How to Play Solo – Beginner’s Guide

Your main goal as a beginner

    • As a beginner your main goal is to defeat monsters and level up your class so you can equip yourself with more perks.
    • Earning XP by killing monsters and leveling up your class is now more important then getting out of the dungeon alive with some loot or fighting players.
    • Learn how to fight monsters first while avoiding traps (and other players).
    • Learn the monsters’ attack patterns, so you know when to attack and how to block attacks.

Getting out alive with some loot comes when you get good at defeating monsters. And pvp is the last thing you should worry about right now.

You will be killed by monsters and players, don’t worry about it, go back again!

    General points

    • Learn your class and find what playstyle works for you.
    • Thinking before doing anything keeps you alive.
    • Aim for the head! Hitting your head does more damage.
    • You can duck to avoid the wall traps.
    • You can kill multiple enemies with one swing.
    • Everything you do will make some noise.
    • You run faster, and jump further with a flashlight/nothing in your hand.
    • Watch your surroundings, looting can happen anywhere.
    • Beware of dark rooms and corners, players can hide there to ambush you! Sneaky scoundrel.
    • Darkness is your friend, not just as a villain.
    • You make less noise while moving while crouching (Ctrl) or walking (Shift).
    • Don’t try to kill while fighting, learn how to avoid attacks and spells.
    • You can hold down the left mouse button for combo attacks.
    • Some weapons also have a right-click attack.
    • Break open vases, boxes and barrels, they contain loot!
    • Try not to shy away.
    • You will lose gear, don’t get too attached.
    • Don’t panic when you see multiple enemies, kite around them and kill them.
    • Take care of the shiny things on the ground, you can sell jewelry, gems and other valuables for gold.
    • Keep jewelry and other valuables, discard damaged gear while looting.
    • Use your flashlight! You can also throw it with RMB.

Always heal yourself after a fight with whatever healing item you’ve got, there’s no point in saving them for later. The only exception is if you take poison or minor fire damage.

When you meet a player who starts running away from you… don’t assume he is alone…

Look for secret rooms and passageways behind wooden planks (break them) and moving walls that you can open with nearby levers/pressure plates.

Listen carefully, it’s easy to tell what’s going on around you. You can hear other players walking around, opening doors, fighting, etc.

Sometimes it’s better to leave the room early. You don’t have to kill everything in the room or break everything.

It’s usually best to avoid team fights, you might be able to fight them and win if you can pick someone off and you surprise them so they panic, but if they already beat you See, they will come for you and it will be difficult. To kill them

Try crouching repeatedly when you see a solo player, they might be friendly and you can team up or just avoid the fight with them and move on. (Not likely, but it could happen.)

Throw your flashlight at the floor spike trap to trigger it, now you can walk on it. Sometimes it is possible to hug the wall and walk around it.

The best classes for solo play

    • Maulvi
    • Savage
    • Ranger
    • the fighter

    Why?

    Maulvi

    • You can heal yourself with spells.
    • You have a lot of damaging spells: single target and area damage (for killing undead).
    • You have your own choices: shield, damage, stats.

    Savage

    • High weapon damage and HP.
    • You can (with the right perk) break through doors.
    • You can solo teams with some skill.

    Ranger

    • You can kite around enemies dealing damage.
    • Multiple self-healing options.
    • You can kill players.

    the fighter

    • Easy to play.
    • Some heal on their own.
    • You can use most gear and weapons (eg bows, with the right perk).

The other classes (Rogue and Wizard) aren’t as beginner friendly, so I don’t recommend them if you’re just starting out, but after you’ve had some practice with the other classes and you understand the game better. They can be played as a solo.

    Maulvi

    • Before you fight or enter a room switch your staff (press 2) and imbue yourself with Bless and Divine Strike and apply protection. Don’t target enemies while you bounce or heal yourself, as you can also heal enemies. Kill things with your melee weapon, if there are more than two mobs, or you want to hit something fast, use Holy Light, if you get a bit crowded, run away, use your AOE spell ( Use Holy Purification), if you chose it. As your active skill, then finish them off with melee.
    • Holy Light will two-shot most enemies.
    • Use Lesser Heal to heal yourself after the fight.
    • Recommended Perk for Level 1: Undead Slaying.
    • Recommended perk for level 5: Stamina/Advanced Healer.
    • Recommended Active Skills: Holy Purification/Smite, Spell Memory.

    Spells to use:

    • Less healing
    • bless
    • Pure light

    • Use the Smash perk so you can smash the door by swinging your weapon at it. You must open doors like a barbarian. No other class can open doors as quickly as you!
    • Break open barrels, boxes, some chests, vases, doors, heads.
    • Use your voices (active skill) whenever you can during combat. Don’t forget that you have throwing weapons, use them.

If you get jumped unexpectedly by a rogue or someone else, you should just fight. It’s you or them. Savages do not run away from a fight.

Except when it’s a team of three, you can do a simulated retreat, “run” through a few doors and find a good ambush spot. Preferably when they fight the monsters you awaken.

    • Recommended Perk for Level 1: Smash.
    • Recommended Perk for Level 5: X Specialization.
    • Recommended Active Skills: Reckless Attack, Rage.

    Ranger

    • Aim for the head! Get a melee weapon as a secondary and don’t forget to use it to fight or break open objects. You can also break barrels etc with your bow. You can put bear traps in it and lure monsters (or players), so you can attack them safely for a while, but be careful it works on you too!
    • If you see skeletons on the ground, shoot them to wake them up. You can draw them so that if there are two next to each other, only one will rise. Use Quickshot and Multishot whenever you can.
    • Skills use “extra” arrows, so you don’t need to reload your arrows to use them.
    • Recommended Perk for Level 1: Sharpshooter.
    • Recommended Perk for Level 5: Nimble Hand.
    • Recommended active skills: Multishot, Quickshot.

    the fighter

    • If you start with a shield, use it. You must aim your shield where the attack is coming from, or it may not block the attack. Your perk (combo attack) should do the damage you need to kill monsters easily. If you get in trouble, use Adrenaline Rush to increase attack speed, then use Second Wind to heal yourself. Once you reach lvl 5 you can buy a bow to draw enemies and deal some damage.
    • Recommended Perk for Level 1: Combo Attack.
    • Recommended perk for level 5: Weapon Mastery (so you can use a bow).
    • Recommended Active Skills: Adrenaline Rush, Second Wind.
