UniqKiller is an upcoming shooter with a heavy focus on customization from Brazilian developer HypeJoe Games

    • UniqKiller was officially announced during Gamescom Latam.
    • It is a top-down shooter that focuses on providing players with plenty of customization options.
    • Expected to have a close son later this year.

While in Brazil Gamescom Latum, I was interested to see if I could find a mobile game made in the country, and, on display in a big yellow booth, I found one. UniqKiller is an upcoming shooter from the developer. HypeJoe Gamesa studio located in Sao Paulo.

It was officially unveiled at the event, and the booth proved popular. Rarely have I passed by during one of my many laps of the show floor and not seen people trying out the available demos. Yellow HypeJoe tote bags were also a common sight at the expo, so it’s fair to say that UniqKiller was often the center of attention.

With that said, HypeJoe aims high to stand out from the crowd in an incredibly saturated shooter market. One way they do this is by switching to an isometric, top-down camera angle from a normal person’s perspective. While it’s undoubtedly something different, it’s unlikely to be a major selling point for most people.

The focus on customization, however, is potentially much more appealing. HypeJoe believes that in 2024, people want a sense of individuality when playing games rather than all looking the same. So, their goal is to give us the freedom to create the character – or Uniq – that we want.

Apparently, it doesn’t stop after you create your character. By playing more matches, you’ll unlock additional customization options. It’s not just for looks. You can also unlock ways to change your Uniqs skills and combat style to suit your preferred approach.

Given that this is a multiplayer affair, you can expect all the usual trappings, such as teaming up with your friends in a clan. Once set up, you’ll compete in clan wars, special events and other missions. And don’t worry if you’re terrible at shooters like me. HypeJoe is dedicated to creating fair matchmaking, which – fingers crossed – means you’re always up against players of your own level.

UniqKiller is set to release on mobile and PC, with closed beta set for November 2024. Stay tuned to Pocket Gamer for any updates on the full release. Hopefully, we’ll have an interview live soon to learn more about HypeJoe’s plans.
