Usato is a high-school student. I have been on my path home with the school of schools, Suzune Inukami and Kazuki Ryusen, and he is headed to a fantasy kingdom, where they are finally starting his isekai journey.

So, the song – please Usato isn’t one of the heroes, the kingdom called forth. He was a single passer-by and remained entangled in the magic circle used to summon the true heroes, Suzune and Kazuki. Too bad it’s no place for Usato to go back home, so he needs to stand with his peers. However, it isn’t the end of Usatos adventure, but it’s just the beginning. As well as improving his magic, he has a great ability to heal the magic.

It’s going to be a good thing, right? Well, apparently many people don’t think that, not even the king. Healing magic is an effective method, especially when working towards war against the demon king and its army, but Rose is a nightmare. She regains Usato’s magic capabilities and puts him off his feet (literally) and force him through a training regime that is more brutal than the training regime that the heroes are going through. Can our unwillingly summoned passer-by survive?

The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic is a light read, with many scenes making his readers wonder why something’s happening as it’s only so ridiculous, but in a similar way the characters and the situation endear you, is it just so difficult to think of? Usato was a loner in his world. In some sense, he’s growing up friendly with many people, so he finds himself with a voice. In essence, Suzune and Kazuki take him under their wing, but he really doesn’t need it. It never really has been before that until some rain pushed them together and in this situation (It started all because of the rain). They’re alone now and can only help one another.

A character who really intrigued me was Rose. She is strong as shown by the fact that the kings army, the king himself and even the demons are a little scared of her. She isn’t interested in the battlefield anymore. There are a few truths about what has happened, but the story isn’t yet told. Her focus is now on the training of Usato and making him the best healer of all time. If she is tempted to beat him up a few times (or hundreds), to ensure he learns, shell will do it without hesitation. I’m curious to see what she’s telling and what she’ll do.

I usually go for anime of any genre, except as long as there is a romance involved, but in this volume, I didn’t have such a luck and there is no indication that a love story will develop with Usato and another character. I thought I’ll always wait for a moment to find out.

This series is an anime that is on display. My opinion is that the manga was decent, but I had never found the same issue with the light novel as the reviewer, so I agree, I think that some of the characters voices can’t distinguish easily. We certainly understand who is speaking thanks to character illustrations. But sometimes we still need to define whos saying what and whos saying it. Although Usato, Kazuki and Suzune are still living in their world, and as soon as they speak, Kazuki and Suzune appear to speak in their world, the conversation is directed toward Usato. The wrong way to use healing magic definitely works better as a manga than as a light novel as most of the themes seen in this book are minimised because of the illustrations. I think its better reading this story in manga format because many of the elements that made me laugh were attributed to the characters expressions, such as when Rose kidnaps Usato and trains him or when Suzune and Kazuki see the training that Usato will be practicing, which are only visible thanks to the art.

The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic has been written and illustrated by Kugayama Reki, and was written and illustrated by Kurokata and KeG. This book was published in English by One Peace Books, with a translation by Kristi Fernandez.
