The game of all sorts: Anime is used to build an existing machine to play a classic video game

A developer recently turned the tables and built the working adding machine in the shooter.

In the first place, when new hardware devices are launched, the question could inevitably arise somewhere in the world whether the cult shooter Doom can play on the new technology, too. From a collection of Ikea lamps to a test of pregnancy to a Lego brick-yard, the legendary video game has been developed to run on wide range of objects. Danny Spencer has proved that the reverse-way is also possible and created an add-on machine using the level editor in Doom.

With the help of Slade, Spencer managed to construct a NAND gate in Doom. This gate was built exclusively with elements found in the shooter. In his blog, Spencer made the gate look binary, and gave it a Doom-level; for example, every node was represented by its own room. By combining sound, natural behavior and actions to Doom, such as opening doors or pressing buttons, Spencer was able to place the morphology and the character of the monsters that were used for display anywhere to represent the same numbers that ramification gate did all this.

According to Spencer, at least his version of a add-in machine in Doom isn’t Turing-complete and cannot be able to do arbitrary calculations. While Doom is certainly functionally complete, or all the logic gates are to be adjusted, the shooter lacks a key for the Turing criterion. If you don’t, it’s now possible to recreate unlimited loops in Doom, especially when monsters can’t be reset. Spencer released the code tested in Doom 2 (v1.9) from Github for anyone interested.
