Although it is the first title released in the series since God of War: Ascension, God of War is a masterpiece of story and gameplay. It also marks the first new chapter of the series, drawing from its Greek roots. However, while it is a great game, PC gamers are always looking to modify their gaming experience with mods. God of War is certainly no exception to this, so here are five of the best God of War mods.

Ultimate God of War Modded Starter Save
Kicking off the list is a mod for God of War that offers modified save points for the game. The creator of this mod, TehRealJoka, created five different mod saves for people to start the game with. Originally, modified saves were created so that players could start the game without chest or wrist armor, but eventually the saves were increased and changed to serve other functions, such as armor adjustments, stats, and loot.
- Ultimate Legit GOW Starter Save 3.0: This modified save removes Kratos’ chest and wrist armor while also giving the player all the loot in the game.
- Ultimate Modded GOW Starter Save 3.0: This save is the same as the first save, except that Kratos’ stats will be maxed out.
- Kratos without armor without mods: This save offers no features except removing Kratos’ chest and wrist armor, offering the normal God of War experience.
- No Chest – Doll – Legit Waist Armor 3.0: This save is the same as the first save on this list, but it also removes the armor from Kratos’ waist.
- No Chest – Doll – Waist Armor Modded 3.0: This save is the same as the second save on this list, but it also removes the armor from Kratos’ waist.

Skip Playstation intro video on startup
Upon launching God of War, players are greeted with a Playstation video that has nothing to do with the game. This frustrated gamers, and many wished there was a way to get rid of the video or at least make it only play the first time. Enter Insanity666, who have created a mod to bypass the Playstation intro video entirely, making getting started a lot less of a hassle.

Wow R!GRADE
This grandly titled mod takes the already impressive visuals of God of War and tweaks some of the game’s visual settings beyond their limits. Specifically, according to RIMBUSTA WONKA, the mod will improve colors, shadows, and tone-mapping sharpness, making everything sharper and more vibrant overall. For many gamers, a better looking game is always a better game, which is why this mod is a huge winner among the God of War community.

New skins of young Kratos
While most God of War fans love the redesign of Kratos as an older, calmer character, there are others who still love the younger, more impulsive version of the Ghost of Sparta. Remembering how many looks Kratos has had over the years is as difficult as remembering the story order of the God of War games, but many fans will remember their favorite Kratos look. To give those fans some love, MrRaven created a mod that allows players to equip several different versions of the younger Kratos, each with their own cosmetic changes or style:
- Kratos young tattooed blue: As the title suggests, this version of Kratos features his typical pure white skin, but his tattoos will be a striking shade of blue. This is actually a homage to one of Kratos’ early designs before red tattoos were even agreed upon.
- Dark Odyssey Kratos: A version of Kratos found in God of War 2, this version features black skin, bright yellow tattoos, and glowing yellow eyes.
- fear kratos: From God of War 3, this version features black skin with red tattoos. One interesting addition is that Mimir will also have a black skin with red accents when wearing this skin.
- General Kratos: This version of Kratos is a version before his pale white skin, instead showing his skin color before the tragic events that turned him into his younger, angry self.
- original young kratos: The classic look of Kratos that every God of War fan loved from the beginning. Pale skin, red tattoos, and all of Kratos’ original trappings from day one.

Less fog and no fog
In some places within God of War, the fog can become quite a visual burden, especially when you’re trying to keep an eye out for items and enemies. Enter DisablePP’s Less Fog and No Fog mod, which offers different settings that change the level of fog in the game. Although this is a personal preference type of mod, it will certainly offer you advantages in the way of detecting things that would normally be hidden, making it a worthwhile addition to this list.
The mod is split into two files, one offering less fog and the other turning it off completely. Both are downloaded and activated in the same way, and instructions along with the files can be found in the Modification Page Less Fog and No Fog in nexus mods.
