Mortal Kombat has been around since 1992 and has given us some of the most iconic fighting game characters of all time. From Scorpion to Sub-Zero, these characters have been fighting in the Mortal Kombat tournament for decades. With so many great characters to choose from, it’s hard to pick the best of the best. But we’ve done our best to come up with a list of the top 10 Mortal Kombat characters of all time.
10.Shao Khan
- First appeared in: Mortal Kombat II
There is no doubt that Shao Kahn is one of the most powerful beings in the Mortal Kombat series. Shao Kahn is the Emperor of Outworld and one of the main antagonists of the Mortal Kombat series. In Mortal Kombat, he has been able to defeat some of the most formidable warriors and has ruled Outworld for centuries. His strength, durability, and fighting abilities are legendary, making him one of the most dangerous enemies anyone can face.
9.Kitana

As one of the original Mortal Kombat fighters, Kitana has had a long history in the franchise. She was introduced as a villain in the second game, but over time she became a fan favorite thanks to her impressive martial arts skills and cool demeanor. While she doesn’t have the sheer power of some of the other characters on this list, she more than makes up for it with her agility and speed. Fans of her also appreciate that she has one of the most interesting backstories in the series, making her a well-rounded, three-dimensional character.
8.kenshi

Kenshi is the definition of an all-round fighter, with a great combination of moves that can be used for offensive or defensive purposes. He also has one of the best Mortal Kombat stories. After being blinded as a child, he was taken in and trained by the same people who killed his parents. This gives him an extra layer of depth that other characters just don’t have.

7.Raid
- First appeared in: Mortal Kombat
One of the most powerful characters in Mortal Kombat, he is the eternal God of Thunder and protector of Earthrealm. This character has become one of the most iconic characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise and is among the most popular in the world. His lightning attacks from him have become one of his trademarks and has appeared in all of the main installments of the series. His status as an Elder God was obtained after he defeated Shinnok twice. Apart from this, he is also one of the founding members of Mortal Kombat Defenders of Realms.
6. Milena
- First appeared in: Mortal Kombat II
Whenever she participates in Mortal Kombat tournaments, Mileena is regarded as one of the fiercest and deadliest competitors out there. Despite being one of the few female fighters in the series, she deserves a lot of respect and is definitely not to be underestimated. Her agility and speed make her a force to be reckoned with, and she has some powerful moves that can easily take down her opponents.
5.Johnny Cage
- First appeared in: Mortal Kombat
Hollywood actor Johnny Cage has made a name for himself in the world of martial arts, having participated in Mortal Kombat, a tournament in which he is known for his extraordinary martial arts skills. Despite his arrogance, he has the moves to back it up, as well as the confidence to follow it. In order to save Earthrealm from Outworld forces, Raiden recruited him to help him.
4.ermac
- First appeared in: Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Ermac is a mighty warrior who made his first appearance in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. He was once a humble farmer who was recruited by Emperor Shao Kahn of Outworld. After being infused with the souls of fallen warriors, Ermac became a powerful enforcer for Kahn. However, after seeing the error of his ways, Ermac joined forces with the warriors of Earth to fight Kahn and protect his home kingdom.

3.Liu Kang

Aside from being one of the original Mortal Kombat champions and a good guy, Liu Kang is considered one of the faces of the Mortal Kombat franchise for a reason. There is no doubt that he is one of the best fighters in the world, as he is a great fighter with an amazing move set that is easy to pick up and master, but still challenging, making him accessible to casual fans. but exciting for hardcore gamers.
2. Below Zero
- First appeared in: Mortal Kombat II
Sub-Zero has always been a fan favorite thanks to his unique ice abilities, cool demeanor, and iconic wardrobe, as well as his fighting abilities. Having been one of the first characters to appear in Mortal Kombat, he has remained a franchise staple for over a decade. While he’s gone through a few changes over the years (including becoming a cyborg), he’s always been a top-tier fighter.

Scorpion is a fan favorite due to his cool moves and attitude. Mortal Kombat games often portray him as the anti-hero, but he’s also a good guy. It’s relatively easy to execute his moves, making him a great character for beginners.
