Learn how to become a goalkeeper.

    A guide to the bullet

    Setting

First let’s adjust a few settings.

You need to turn on the goalkeeper catch toggle.

The other is less important but my preference. Change the toggle to a key that’s easy to reach because it will toggle after you catch the ball and you don’t want to take your hand off your mouse or rearrange your fingers to reactivate it.

Next is the camera settings. I think it’s useful to have more height and distance so you can see the ball more easily in the context of the field. Otherwise you won’t know how close or far the ball is. I also like more distance so I can see my position relative to the target when approached from the side.

    Gameplay Basics

Always keep your gloves on (except for one time I’ll tell you about).

    This toggle is on.

    This is toggled off.

It automatically saves the ball when it is close to you. Without it, everyone will point and laugh at you. It doesn’t work when X is through the glove.

    Positioning

Do not stand straight on the line. You’ll find yourself with little room to maneuver. Instead, you’ll want to work in a circle. In front of the goal. This is what you should be near the line most of the time.

You must always protect the center of the objective. This is how you make the hardest shots.

Avoid diving in the beginning as it will often throw you out of position. Instead, focus on being in the right position. Giving strikers a hard shot is a good thing in itself.

    run away

It helps to be unpredictable when dealing with breakaways. The main thing you want to do is hurry up and limit the space. See Cone below. It’s smaller the closer it is to the shooter. Get close and it’s an easy save. Rarely you may get a reaction but after a break. Instead, you should limit the player’s options and then predict.

You will see this method used by pro goalkeepers. If the attack is coming from one direction, you should generally push. Sometimes you need to be unexpected and wait longer. This can make saving difficult but it will make it easier and less scary when you really get going.

    Support and passing

Most of your colleagues will suck. If you are playing indoors, usually kick it to the wings. If you’re playing an outdoor blast, it’s less than full power to get it to someone on the halfway line.

When the ball is in the second half, push up so you can block the ball or be ready for a pass.

Also, keep your gloves off when kicking the ball. This is important on goal kicks as you will sometimes get a double touch.

    Call for the ball.

Hold ‘E’ to call the ball. Do this when your defender is under pressure and has no way out. Spend as much as you can and you’ll have done a good job of helping.
