After a few leaks, Pokemon TCG Japan’s high-class setVSTAR universe has finally been released. VSTAR Universe is a Japanese product and is available with locations that sell Japanese products. The initial twenty-23 English-language special set closed out the Wreck, the Zeld era, and the ZZifth. Like earlier special sets like VMAX Climax and Shield Star V,VSTAR Universe is primarily a reprint set with a large Secret Rare section of chase cards. Among these chase cards are all of what we initially thought were Alternate Art VSTARs, but now – from time to time, we can have even a new card rarity. Pokemon TCG Japan has revealed new Art Rares and Special Art Rares, which riff upon Character Rares and Alternate (or Special) arts. Art Rares are Full Art art forms without texture that create a unique image using Pokemon. Unlike traditional character ones, they only have Trainers present. Then Special Art Rares begin with the same concept and add a V or VSTAR mechanic. This set includes more special Art Trainer Supporters than any other item. There is also, for the first time, Gold Extraordinary Art VSTARs. This set will also be completed with the Pokemon-V and VSTARs as 2023 will see the release of the Scarlet & Violet era, which is back to the Pokemon ex mechanic. Today we’ll find another rare type of art from VSTAR Universe.

We have a slush for the Darkrai, which seems to appear like the main figure is rendered with colored pencils by Pani Kabayashi. The background word is so boring that you see from Darkrai as a sunrise over the beach. It isn’t generally a place where you’d expect to see a sinister Pokemon like Darkrai, which is partly why I love these special art Rares so much. The white-watering nature of the moon, and the dark clouds surrounded the moon creates a beautiful, strange view with which the frightens and evokes a sense of beauty.

Kabayashi has contributed to the CGM since Sun & Moon Cosmic Eclipse. Some of their most memorable cards are Koffing fromShining Fates and Quilava fromSword & Shield Astral Radiance. This is their first Pokemon card that isn’t standard, so it’s fun seeing them begin to come up with the concept of Ultra Rares.

Japanese sets often give us early ideas of what the English-language sets mean. Keep an eye on our coverage. Check out all the games and watch the TV Show here.
