It’s time for a new era. Pokémon TCG Japan will release two sets on January 20, 2023 that will begin Generation 9 and bring Pokemon and Trainers to the Pokémon TCG. These two sisters areScarlet ex and Violet ex. These sets and three 60-cardStarter Set Ex decks will form the basis of the English-language seriesScarlet & Violet base coming out internationally on March 31, 2023. When news hit the press, the English-language version of the sets will now more closely mirror the Japanese, using silver borders and set codes rather than set symbols. This set also sees the return of the original low-case ex cards, and the debut of the Terastal ex cards that will replace Vs and VMAX as Ultra Rares. We still haven’t seen how the Full Arts and Secret Rares of the Blue era will appear. Today, let’s look at a new trainer from the Paldea region who appeared first in the hobby.

Penny is a mysterious character, with a secret identity from the “Scarlet & Violet game.” She is skilled in machinery and computer skills, but shy and disgruntled when she speaks at Naranja Academy inScarlet or Uva Academy inViolet. Penny is a Eevee-themed Trainer, the figure from her backpack, and is used to defend her battle. Her secret identity, which we won’t be able to remove, will likely appear in a few of the larger future cards in the Scarlet and Violet era.

Artistyuu is credited as an illustrator here. Recent notable credits of yuu include Acerola’s Premonition Full Art from Sword & Shield Brilliant Starsand Zeraora V Character Super Rare from Sword & Shield Silver Tempest.

The Japanese set often gives us old ideas of what English-language set is the ideal, so be careful. You can take advantage of the latest previews of the VSTAR Universe games and more at Bleeding Cool.
