Old School RuneScape is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game with a loyal fan base. This is because the developers try to improve the game according to the in-game surveys for the players. There have been many since the game launched in 2013, but this one is different. Something’s brewing as it looks like OSRS is adding a new ability in 2023! The only dilemma is: what could it be?
Is Old School RuneScape adding a new ability?
So far, you’ve managed to do a lot in OSRS, from fishing and crafting to fighting monsters. Although it seems that there is not much new to learn, Old School RuneScape is adding a new ability. The only question is, which one will you vote for? As the game has an old school feel and some expensive items to buy, the change should be something OSRS fans will appreciate. The good news is that the fans voted for a new ability and everything is ready for the next steps.

When can we expect new skills in OSRS?
The developers have a very specific way of deciding what a new ability will be in OSRS. The process will include these steps, with no clear deadlines:
- Vote if a new skill is needed (done!)
- Community Consultation
- skill releases
- Refinement
- skill lock
- Try the Beta
- Consult more with the players
- Official introduction of the new ability in OSRS.
As you can see, the process will take time, but everything will be done in agreement with the players. The new ability in Old School RuneScape is expected in 2023. How quickly it will be part of the game depends on player feedback and how long it takes developers to get it right.
