Neil Druckmann, vice president of Naughty Dog, and author of The Last of Us, Part 2. Naughty Dog is going to unveil its PS5 exclusive only once it’s ready. Druckmann explains that he didn’t want to repeat what he did with Uncharted 4 and The Thiefs End in the second chapter of The Last of Us, both announced several years ahead of the release date.

You were right. We announced Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us 2 too early, but that caused a little trouble with the studio’s worklife, explains Druckmann. As of 2014, Uncharted has been announced, released, and has been released in 2016, but with the second most recent installment in a row, is now released.

The team wants to replicate what other studios like FromSoftware, for example, or Respawn Entertainment do. In fact, these software houses tend to announce their titles a few months before the release, except for Elden Ring, which saw a rapid decline due to COVID-19. As such, the players who won’t have to wait years between the announcement and the games release benefit from that while the employees, who are more rushed, don’t miss it.

By delaying that announcement a bit, we could have better juggled with the development schedule and now we knew more about how we would be able to approach production. So there’s this dreaded project and there’s a new project I won’t say about but I was really excited, said the vice president of Naughty Dog. Remember the game is set to be inspired by the television series. What do you think, Gametimers?
