Actor Oscar Isaac has revealed that he is still “hopeful” that the Metal Gear Solid movie will end up being made.
Isaac was cast as Solid Snake in the planned adaptation of Metal Gear Solid in 2020 and has been attached to the project ever since. However, since the announcement that the actor would play the title role, progress in production has been minimal. However, the actor has offered a small consolation to fans who are excited for the film.
In an interview with comicbook.com, Isaac offered a small update on the film’s progression. “We want it to happen,” he said. “Get excited. What’s the script? What’s the story? What’s the shot? […] But I hope that comes to fruition because there is a lot of potential for that. It’s an amazing game. It is my favorite.”
Isaac chose to take on the role because he “loves the game” (via GamesRadar). “I love the feeling the game gives me every time I play it. It’s just a weirdly isolated, sad, lonely game that has these incredible moments of violence and horror, with these weird psychedelic concepts and villains. But, yeah, it’s kind of like the military horror psychedelic stuff that happens,” he explained.
He continued: “And the truth is, underneath it all, it’s an anti-war story. So I think those are the elements that I really love. And like I said, I love the feel of playing it and the big question of: can something like that be transferred, or can you explore those themes in a really interesting way, on film?
Isaac has taken on a multitude of high-profile roles in recent years, most recently playing Duke Leto Atreides in the recent film Dune. He also played the titular character in Marvel’s Moon Knight on Disney+.
