There are countless new challenges to take on in Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail expansion, and one of the first pits the Warrior of Light against the one and only Valigarmanda. When does Warqor Lar Dor’s trial unlock in FFXIV Dawntrail?

Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail Primary Trials series begins with none other than the fated beast of legend, Tural: Valigarmanda the Celestial Ruin. To unlock the normal version of the fight, however, you’ll first need to reach a specific point in the Dawntrail main scenario questline (check out our guide on how to start the Dawntrail main quest in FFXIV).
Once you’ve made your way through the mountains of Urqopacha and encountered the statuesque Yok Huy that act as guardians of the region, you’ll soon find yourself in a situation where you must defeat Valigarmanda, lest he wreak havoc on Tural again. 93 Main Scenario Mission “The Heavenly Ruin” will officially unlock the test for you to participate.
If you’re worried about not meeting the minimum item level requirement for this fight, there’s no need to stress, as the game waives that stipulation for normal difficulty, as long as a full party of eight players is present. The quest will sync your level to 93 if yours is higher at the time of queuing.
Valigarmanda Boss Guide in Worqor Lar Dor Trial – FFXIV
Remember to equip the best gear you have available, whether it’s raid gear or Endwalker’s Enhanced Tomography Stone, or the newer pieces of gear obtained by completing Dawntrail’s main scenario quests. Also bring along some useful foods to use as stat boosts, as every little bit helps at this early stage of the expansion.
Lastly, if you want to try out Viper or Pictomancer in this fight, make sure you unlock the jobs in their respective areas first.
The normal build of Warqor Lar Dor is a dynamic, but otherwise fairly straightforward fight. Valigarmanda starts the fight with a big donut-shaped area of damage to get the party huddled together, indicated by a bright red mechanical notification, which is a new feature in FFXIV battle content going forward.
Along with various shaped AoE’s that divide large portions of the arena, Valigarmanda utilizes the elements of fire, ice, and lightning to its advantage by executing different mechanics. After a tank-destroying attack, the beast will use ‘Heavenly Ruin’ to change the arena into a storm (lightning) or snow (ice).
If there’s a storm, several green squares will appear in the arena that will levitate you upwards if you stand on them. You’ll take advantage of this when Valigarmanda uses “Thundering Breath” to levitate and dodge the otherwise unavoidable area-of-effect mechanic.
When Valigarmanda changes the environment to snow, she will use an avalanche to wipe out half of the arena, as indicated by another bright red mechanic message. Otherwise, make sure to keep moving with her Frost Dust ability so your character doesn’t freeze and dodge the Arcane Circle’s AoE’s.
Near the end of the fight, Valigarmanda will summon three additional elemental enemies for the party to defeat, all while dodging conical area attacks and tanking attacks when necessary. Soon, the epic beast will collapse in defeat.
