As a new player to Zenless Zone Zero, you may be trying to locate the game’s banners. In ZZZ, banners are called “Signal Hunts” and there are three different types that use two in-game items to allow you to attract either Agents (companions) or W-Engines (weapons).

How to Unlock Signal Searches in Ground Zero Without Zen

Signal searches are not available from the start of the game; in fact, the feature is completely locked until you reach a certain point.

To unlock the Signal Quests in Zenless Zone Zero, you’ll need to complete the game’s introduction where you rescue Anby and Billy from the Hollow and then follow the steps to be introduced to the Inter-Knot.

In Inter-Knot you’ll find your first assignment, which is a quest you can complete to gain EXP and other items in Zenless Zone Zero. The assignment is for General Chop, who runs the Noodle Shop. You’ll also receive an assignment for Suzie from the Gadget Shop.

Go see General Chop first to get the information for his job and then head to see Suzie.

You’ll discover that Suzie’s boss, the gadget shop owner, runs an underground W-Motor service. W-Motors are weapons in Ground Zero without Zen, but they look like round toys. Suzie is unaware of her boss’s dealings and gladly offers you a free W-Motor for the job, which your Proxy will give to Anby.

When you are done talking, you will be asked to return to your brother/sister and talk to him/her about the commissions.

As soon as that conversation happens, you’ll get a notification that Signal Searches have been unlocked, and the game will walk you through a quick tutorial on what they are and how they work.

What signal searches are available in Zenless Zone Zero?

There are three different signal searches that you can use at any time.

    1. A limited-time signal quest for S-Rank and A-Rank Agents, as well as A-Rank and B-Rank W-Engines. These quests require Encrypted master tape.
    2. A limited-time signal quest for S-Rank, A-Rank, and B-Rank W-Engines, as well as A-Rank Agents. These quests require Encrypted master tape.
    3. A permanent search for signals for agents and W engines. These searches require Master tape.

These may change over time and you will be able to find details of any new Signal Search banners on their individual screens under the ‘Details’ button at the bottom.

How can I get more encrypted master tapes and master tapes for banner runs?

One of the main ways to get more Encrypted Master Tapes and Master Tapes is by completing assignments in Ground Zero without Zen. Some assignments can be found in the Inter-Knot, while others may just walk past your door and come straight to you, like Nicole does during the game’s intro.

Another way to get Master Tape and Encrypted Master Tape is to complete various in-game events and get rewards for them. In addition to the pre-registration rewards, there are eight other events running in July 2024 for Zenless Zone Zero players. All of them can be found in our pre-registration rewards guide.

Some Zenless Zone Zero codes may also have any type of tape.

Alternatively, you can convert polychrome into ribbon or use the trade shop to obtain more ribbon. Polychrome appears as a reward in many places, including commission rewards.
