Here’s our first look at The Witcher 3 next-gen update

Here’s our first look at the witcher 3: The next generation update to Wild Hunt and it comes with more bells and whistles than we expected.

CD Projekt Red hosted a special live stream that gave us a first look at the new and improved gameplay. However, we also learned some of the special features and quality of life improvements that this upgrade will bring.

The next-gen update is more than just pictures

The Witcher 3 next-gen update will bring improved visuals, 3D textures like cobbled paths, denser mundane foliage, improved load times, ray tracing, and much more. We’re even getting a new, closer camera perspective, in addition to the original camera.

As with most new-gen features, console gamers will have the option to prefer gameplay or performance, and of course there will be a fancy photo mode. PC gamers will get the added choice of DLSS, FSR, and Ultra Plus graphics options to name just a few. PS5 gamers will also benefit from the DualSense controller features.

Various quality of life improvements have also been implemented, such as being able to activate a variety of sign powers simply by holding a button, instead of pausing the game (so to speak). Now you can also run by simply pushing up on the analog stick instead of pressing a button.

The Witcher 3 next-gen update has a lot of improvements

There’s even an additional minimap option that allows players to completely hide the map, have it appear and disappear when needed, or it can stay there forever. Best of all, all features are optional, including the closer perspective of the camera.

So if you wanted to play The Witcher 3 as it originally was, but with all the visual and performance improvements, that’s fine too.

There will even be new accessibility options, like finally being able to adjust the text size in-game, so there’s no need to squint trying to read subtitles from afar.

You can also adjust the HUD, pause during cutscenes, and more. CDPR is even fixing broken quests that have plagued the game for years.

CD Projekt Red also confirmed that, like Cyberpunk 2077, you’ll be able to transfer your save from one platform to another. So, you can pick up where you left off or start a new adventure. CDPR also reiterated that the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions will also benefit from “numerous additions and improvements”.

We also got our first look at the DLC inspired by the popular Netflix adaptation. We saw Geralt’s awesome black/grey armor, as well as some questionable Nilfgaardian armor. Even Jaskier is donning a Netflix-inspired outfit. However, to get the new armor and weapons for Geralt, you will need to complete certain quests.

There are still many surprises to come

CD Projekt Red has also promised that there will be more surprises to be revealed during the upcoming live streams. Furthermore, some surprises will even be reserved for the release of the next-gen update and will not appear in the patch notes.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update will be available for free to those who already own the game. Also, if you don’t have the game, you can get a full next-gen edition next month.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update will launch next month for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on December 14.the.
