Out of the personal and long letter written by the company’s CEO Kazunori Yamauchi, the two parties also came out with a collaborative video message thanking the supporters and the community for their trust and dedication to the franchise. A post on the PlayStation website with these gestures of gratitude also shows that over 90 million customers have been paying a new product for the month since it was started. This post tells me that the original “Standard Turismo” is entitled to “Everything!

In the last 25 years, the total sales of the series have attracted over 90 million copies as of November 16, 2022. And this result is something that couldn’t be achieved by ourselves alone.

The gaming giant rarely gets a certain sales figures from the mainstream, but the recognition that it is truly a success with the GT franchise must be a motivation.

Polyphony Digital finally announced its latest update in May of 2017 that 80,4 million copies of the game were being sold. That means that over four and six million copies of Gran Turismo Sport and Gran Turismo 7 have been sold in the past four and a half years. The total amount of 5-6 million copies of GT7 being sold over these three quarters would already go up to the total lifetime sales of GT6. The development team at Polyphony Digital hasn’t even stopped there because the studio has shipped out two major updates in the last ten weeks bringing the anniversary together.

The first of those free updates came out in September. Three new cars, a new racing track and new features. Meanwhile, the latest model fell last week and the new model has been introduced, including a prototype-car which comes with a ten-strong BMW. The players liked the upgrades because they all were free.

The Ferrari Vision, which was announced as a surprise to the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 in December, is coming with a update from December.

While originally slated to be released for the PlayStation 1, Gran Turismo became one of the Xbox’s premier party titles. At the time it came to Japan, the patented, new technology of the PlayStation is gaining popularity. As Yamauchi noted, none of this would be possible without the hard work of the continually growing team at Polyphony Digital. He revealed that the team behind the first iteration of the game consisted of three engineers and two part-time artists.

The number of comrades has also gone up over one-quarter of the twentieth century, and becomes Polyphony Digital today, a company with more than 200 employees.

Yamauchi also mentioned that his filmmaking ambitions in his early days of collaboration with Sony might have pushed him in a different direction, but he is very lucky to have realized his first project plan out of the hundreds he had in mind when beginning his career.

“I think the Gran Turismo series has always pursued beauty. The beauty of the cars, the beauty of the scenery, the beauty of the lighting, the beauty of driving, the beauty of sounds, the beauty of music and the beauty of the graphics. Yamauchi is obsessed with beauty, as the pursuit of the beauty continues with the Gran Turismo.

Gran Turismo 7 is widely considered one of the best entries in the series and won’t likely push the franchise close to 100 million units before launching a sequel. The live-action adaptation will be the first of the year.
