DwarfHeim A Mine For All Resources

This is an instruction for a simple mine that will make all resources.

Additional tips and tricks are below.

This guide isn’t finished and maybe I will change a few steps as there isn’t something like a “perfect” mine.

This mine is also far away from what is considered the “meta” and it’s mostly intended for new players that don’t know the basics of cost effective mine designs.

I will make a guide with advanced mines and build orders when I’m finished with this guide.

Step 1 — Early income

Cost: 190 wood, 25 stone

This is the cheapest possible mine that can be built and is never a bad choice for the beginning.

If you chose Nubbs as your thane then you won’t need any miners. Otherwise train 1 miner.

Mine a single silver block after the mine is finished, this will allow the builder to build a granary and lumbermill.

Then keep mining iron and gold in a 1:1 ratio.

Step 2 — 4 forges for basic resources

Cost: 290 wood, 80 iron, 25 stone

Wait for the builder to build a few farms, a barracks and 1-2 houses. Now you can train an additional miner and use him to build the machines.

After everything is finished you can delete the first crusher. This will regain 40 wood and 25 stone.

Mine gold, iron and silver in a 1:1:1 ratio until you have mined 8-10 silver blocks. Then keep mining gold and iron in a 1:1 ratio.

Step 3 — 8 forges for basic resources

Cost: 320 wood, 80 iron, 25 stone

Wait for the builder to build a few additional farms, houses and a 3rd barracks. Then train 2 additional miners and build the machines.

This step may look a bit weird and unsymmetrical, but it’s intended that all coal goes to the right side of the mine.

Keep mining gold and iron in a 1:1 ratio and get 3-5 additional silver blocks.

Step 4 — Steel and Gilver

Cost: 500 wood, 240 iron, 100 gold

Wait until your team has no need for any other important buildings like houses, farms or barracks.

You have to delete a few rails before you can build the machines. The bottom transmuter makes steel and the upper transmuter makes gilver.

Mine gold, iron, silver and coal roughly in a 4:4:2:1 ratio.

Replace your miners with 3-4 geologists as soon as you have some steel.

Step 5 — Lockstone

Cost: 10 wood, 120 iron, 50 gold

Wait until your team has enough gilver and steel to afford most of the blacksmith upgrades.

Build the machines and set the transmuter to Lockstone.

Keep mining gold, iron, silver and coal in a 4:4:2:1 ratio like in step 4.

Try to research the transmuter upgrade in the blacksmith as soon as you have 50 Lockstone. This will double the steel and gilver and quadruple the Lockstone income.

Additional Mines

Sometimes you need more of a specific resource than the shown mine can make. This can usually be solved by building additional mines in other locations.

Stone and Coal

Cost: 190 wood, 25 stone

This is the exact same setup as in step 1.

Send 2-3 miners into a far away corner, build the mine and mark all nearby stone and coal.

This little mine will provide more stone and coal than you will ever need.

Gold and Iron (and Silver)

Cost: wood, stone, iron

Steel, Gilver and Lockstone

Cost: wood, stone, iron

Tips and Tricks

– You don’t need many miners to keep your machines filled with resources. For each crusher you need only 2 miners or 1 geologist. Nubbs is slightly better than 2 miners and the other thanes are like 1 miner. It’s good to have 1 more miner than you actually need, you can use him to expand your mine while everyone else keeps mining.

– Feel like you have too little to do? Mine some coal and send a miner on an adventure. Place torches next to all staircases and in all crossroads to reveal surprise attacks in the underworld. You can also try to capture the 2 underworld runes to increase your resource income.
