Destiny 2 API and Companion App will be down until next week

In case you missed it the first time when it happened a few weeks ago, Bungie is disabling their API to stop a deluge of error codes plaguing Destiny 2. This means that services like Bungie’s official companion app and many third-party Los Sites and services like Braytech.org and Destiny Item Manager are also down.

The news came from the official Bungie Support Twitter Account about a day after players started encountering a series of issues. These would range from disconnections to untracked wins to revoked rewards. The problem was traced back to a faulty code with the new Exotic Zero Revision. Instead of disabling the new Exotic and Operation: Seraph’s Shield Weapon, Bungie opted to disable the API.

This is the second time in a month that Bungie has taken this drastic step. The community is… less than satisfied with this course of action. This is largely because instead of having a competent item manager and in-game matchmaking system for many activities, Bungie has relied on third parties to fill this gap.

What’s even more concerning is that the issue has not only popped up twice recently, but it’s close to the release of the Lightfall expansion, which is supposed to have additional features like matchmaking and in-game uploads. Fans are understandably upset, and their faith in the developer has been shaken. Here’s hoping this is the last time this happens.
