Charlie Cox described being asked to play Matt Murdock/Daredevil again in She-Hulk: Lawyer.
While Cox played the Man Without Fear in three seasons of the acclaimed Netflix series Reckless, that show was not produced by Marvel Studios, had no significant interactions with studio president Kevin Feige. Therefore, he had an interesting story to convey while talking to marvel.com about getting the call to return, this time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It was in the middle of the pandemic. Everyone was on lockdown. My wife and I had been out for a walk with our kids, and when I came back, I got a voicemail saying: It was from Kevin’s assistant saying, ‘This is Kevin’s assistant Feige. Could you call us back? So my wife freaked out, and I immediately called the number and was put through to Kevin.” However, his initial skepticism would be quelled.
She continued, “I thought maybe she was going to ask me if I would consider doing a big charity event or video or something to raise money and funds for people who are suffering during the pandemic. I didn’t expect to be asked to reprise the role. I have a big mental picture in my head of my wife sitting on the steps desperate to know what was going on on the phone.
She-Hulk’s surprise role from Daredevil
Since the conclusion of Reckless and the rest of Marvel’s formerly Netflix streaming shows, fans have been wondering if and when the characters will join the MCU. The answer came in December 2021 when Spider-Man: No Way Home featured a key cameo from Cox as Matt Murdock in his capacity as a lawyer, though not without a revealing display of his reckless senses. In fact, while developing she-hulkShowrunner Jessica Gao was surprised to learn that she, too, could incorporate Daredevil into the story. “I don’t think we ever in a million years thought we’d be allowed to use them, because we didn’t know what the status of the character was,” she said. “And then, I don’t remember how, we found out that he was coming back and it was Charlie Cox, and we said, ‘Wait, does that mean we can use it? Are we allowed?’ And when they said yes, I mean, we couldn’t believe it, we thought they were playing a prank on us.”
It has also been announced that Cox will star in a new series, Daredevil: Born Again. While the actor commented on his appearance in she-hulk will not lead into the new series, has expressed excitement at the idea of Tatiana Maslany reprising her role as Jen Walters/She-Hulk in born again Maslany herself has shown interest in the idea and has apparently been texting Cox about joining the project.
However, Cox is not the only Reckless star to make a big return to the MCU. just a few weeks before no way homebig launch of the Disney+ series Hawk Eye it would culminate in the return of Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, who was revealed to be the mastermind behind that series’ criminal conspiracy. Fittingly, both Cox and D’Onofrio will reprise their roles in the upcoming Hawk Eye cleave Echowhich will focus on Alaqua Cox’s deaf assassin, Maya Lopez, as she reconnects with her Native American roots.
Both Reckless Y She-Hulk: Lawyer are available to stream on Disney+.
