Charlie Cox Says She-Hulk Was a ‘Holiday’ for Daredevil

Daredevil made his official return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently in She-Hulk: Lawyerand the actor who plays him says that the lighter, happier version of the character seen on the Disney+ series was simply “Matt Murdock on vacation.”

“I talked to Marvel Studios a little bit about where he’s coming from. Where’s his head? What’s going on?” charlie cox said when asked about Matt Murdock’s more confident and charming nature in the series. “I don’t think we really knew what was going to happen next. When we were filming, I certainly didn’t know about a new Reckless show i think [Marvel Studios] I was figuring out what the next right thing is for this character.”

Both Murdock and Daredevil, and the yellow and red Daredevil costume, appeared in the show’s penultimate episode, “Ribbit and Rip It”, as defense attorneys for the clothing designer who designed the same costume. The appearance of the character is advanced to the next Daredevil: Born Again series, announced in July at Comic-Con International: San Diego.

“So I like to think that no matter what’s going on in his world in Hell’s Kitchen,” Cox continued, “when he goes out there to do this little job, which is to defend, to represent Luke Jacobson in this trial, he sees it almost as a little vacation. So his frame of mind is he’s out of sight, out of mind of all the things that, whatever’s going on in New York right now, he’s away from it for a few days. while he handles his case.”

The original Reckless The series debuted on Netflix in 2015 and concluded its third and final season in 2018. That and the other Marvel series on the streaming platform have since migrated to Disney+. Both the character and mood of the series were much darker than those shown in she-hulk.

“While he’s in there, he feels like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders,” Cox said, “and he’s able to put that aside mentally and just enjoy it. Then there’s this fun little romance, and then he gets into all of this.” . things with Leap-Frog as we see the episode unfold. I saw him as a different side of Matt, but maybe not because he’s any different than he’s been in the past or will be in the future, but mostly because he’s kind of like Matt Murdock on vacation a little bit.”

The uptick in mood surrounding Daredevil parallels the path previously taken in the comics. After a long run led by writers Brian Michael Bendis and Ed Brubaker throughout the 2000s, Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera put a much lighter spin on the character when the series was relaunched in 2011. Cox comments, however, they hint at the happier Daredevil seen in she-hulk is not necessarily what viewers can expect when born again comes to the small screen.

Daredevil: Born Again is currently scheduled to arrive on Disney+ in spring 2024. The entire season of She-Hulk: Lawyer now streaming on Disney+
